Biographies of Great Gurus NT3, The History of the Yogi Lord by Chaggen. The History of the Yogi Lord by Chaggen. The History of the Yogi Lord by Chaggen. Homage to Birupa! A brief account of the Yogi Lord, the powerful protector, the glorious Virupa. In the east of India, in the kingdom of Bhishantra, there was a king named Mukhyudzin. When his son, named Golden Wheel, entered the womb, many wondrous signs appeared. The king consulted the court Brahmin astrologer, who said, 'A special prince will be born, but he will not inherit the kingdom. He will enter the Buddhist teachings and become a master of learning, discipline, and virtue, possessing perfect realization.' 'He will protect the Buddhist teachings with his power.' The following year, a princess was disguised as a prince and named Iron Wheel. When the time came, she was enthroned as king, and her merit and power increased, enjoying the wealth of five thousand elephants. After seven years, she revealed her true identity as a woman. Prince Golden Wheel renounced the world at the Soma tsa ra Monastery in the east, which had four root schools. He joined the Sarvastivada school and was ordained by Khenpo Dulva Lha and Master Gyalwa Drakpa, receiving the name Shri Dharmapala. He completed most of his studies, including grammar, logic, the four pitakas, Abhisamayalankara, Prajnaparamita, and Madhyamaka. He made great offerings and showed respect to the Khenpo, master, and sangha. He had a comfortable stone-built room with the three supports of the Three Jewels, and he appointed a caretaker to make offerings. He aimed to purify his parents' sins and accumulate merit. At that time, Nalanda was renowned as the root of the Buddhist teachings, so he went there and received full ordination from the Sarvastivada Khenpos, such as Nampar Gyalwa Lha. He became very skilled in the Vinaya Pitaka, becoming a great scholar of the five sciences. The Khenpo was very pleased and said, 'Secret mantra quickly leads to Buddhahood. I am skilled in Chakrasamvara; if you have faith, I will bestow it.' He requested to receive the transmission, and the Khenpo secretly bestowed the four empowerments. And gave the secret name Precious Vajra. Empowerment and Dharma... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When everything was ready, he gave the instructions on the union of the generation and completion stages, and completed the retreat of number, signs, and time. At that time, in the Khenpo's (Abbot) last will and testament: 'Śrī Dharmapāla (Glorious Dharma Protector) is more learned, virtuous, and upright than I, possessing immeasurable qualities, so please have him be the abbot of Nālandā (ancient Indian Buddhist monastery), especially my seat. Entrust all the Sangha to him, he is worthy of respect, so all of you should respect him even more than me.' Having said that, he passed away. After the cremation, countless miracles appeared, and he became a great devotee of Buddhism and a great guide for sentient beings. After that, the king and patrons, according to the Khenpo's will, offered great gifts to Śrī Dharmapāla (Glorious Dharma Protector) and appointed him as the abbot of Nālandā (ancient Indian Buddhist monastery). Because of his noble lineage, the king, queen, prince, princess, and ministers all sought Dharma from him. All the monks of Nālandā (ancient Indian Buddhist monastery), and all the in-laws, uncles, aunts, patrons, and great leaders of the kingdom sought Dharma from him. As the Khenpo had said, he diligently engaged in listening, thinking, and debating, etc., for the benefit of others during the day, and diligently engaged in meditation and practice at night. Therefore, new diseases invaded, old diseases recurred, evil thoughts disturbed, and various unfortunate events tormented his body, speech, and mind. Sometimes, a great fire blazed from the arrow, a great flood surged from the valley, the earth shook violently, and fierce thunder roared in the sky, countless rains of swords, hail, stones, meteors, and lightning fell from the sky. Due to fear and suffering, he was separated countless times from virtuous friends such as gurus, lamas, khenpos, and teachers, the images of the Yidam (personal deity) were obscured, and the Dharma was abandoned. Noses, etc., were cut off, blood was dripping, the crown fell to the ground, etc., he constantly experienced various declines in body, mind, and dreams, and his heart was very depressed. He concluded that he had no connection with the Vajrayana (Buddhist school), so on the twenty-second night of the first month (Tibetan calendar) of spring, he threw the rosary into the toilet and vowed: 'Now I should strive to listen, think, and debate.' He felt very tired. That night, as he was half-asleep, a dark-skinned woman with radiant features, adorned in splendid garments, devoutly said to him: 'Son of noble family, do not do such inappropriate behavior, pick up the rosary, do not interrupt your practice. All the Yidams (personal deity) are essentially the same, but in the eyes of those to be tamed, I am your Yidam (personal deity), I will bless your lineage.' Having said that, he felt a strong sense of regret. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
