Commentary on the Weapon of Speech Door Commentary on the Weapon of Speech Door ༄༅། །The commentary on the Weapon of Speech Door, authored by Lama Chökyi Zangpo. Here, the author intends to compose a treatise, in order to eliminate obstacles and to conform to the customs of the virtuous, first prostrates, and in order to understand the necessity, vows to explain what is to be explained, and in order to explain the treatise itself well, and also in order to make the composition of the treatise of great significance, he explains the dedication of the roots of virtue and so on. In this regard, this treatise itself also shows the collection of letters, the collection of names, and the collection of sentences. And the branches of these, as stated above, are summarized, and explained through their cause, self-nature, source, definition, and divisions. Among them, first, in order to explain the prostration, it is said: "I prostrate to the chief of speakers." That is to say, among those who speak with reason, such as monks, Brahmins, gods, and demons, the most supreme is the Buddha, so it shows that after prostrating to the Buddha, it will be explained. Why is that? Because "for the sake of perfecting the limbs of speech," and so on, these words of commitment are explained. The necessity here is: for the sake of completely perfecting all the causes and conditions of speech without leaving anything out. What is it? It is said: "That assembly of verbal activities." That is to say, the activity of speech is activity, and its assembly is the cause and condition. That is to say, I will explain it. Now, starting to explain the treatise itself, first the letters are explained, and in order to explain how the sound arises from the general and specific places, through action and contact, it is said: "Belly, throat, palate and tongue, nose, crown, teeth and lips, from the common and each part, contact and slight contact, from narrow and wide, from straight, upright and bent, praise and disparagement, tight and loose sounds arise." Among them, "common" means: arising from the common part of these places, for example, the sound of a lute arises from all parts such as the belly, skin, strings, and hand rest, and so on, similarly.
