Pages 201 to 300. Pages 201 to 300. Please listen carefully with your three doors well guarded. As the great teacher Padmasambhava said, "Difficult to find again and again, like the Udumbara flower. Obtaining it is meaningful, like a wish-fulfilling jewel." Therefore, this precious human body that we have now fortunately obtained is like the Udumbara flower, which is difficult to find again and again. Because it is a basis for abandoning all faults and accomplishing all virtues, obtaining it is very meaningful, like a wish-fulfilling jewel. Because there is no ability to adopt or abandon faults and virtues in any other place, such as gods, nagas, yakshas, etc., other than this basis, it is the most supreme of attainments. Chandragomin also said, "Having obtained it, one exhausts the ocean of birth, and also sows the good seed of supreme enlightenment. More virtuous than the wish-fulfilling jewel, who would render such a human existence fruitless? Relying on the path of the all-knowing, one sets out to guide beings. Whatever is obtained by humans with great mental strength, that path is not obtained by gods or nagas, asuras, or vidyadharas, kimnaras, or those who crawl on their bellies." Therefore, just as one must cross a river when there is a boat, at this time when we have obtained a perfect basis that possesses all the favorable conditions for practicing the path to liberation, we must strive to engage in meaningful activities that will definitely liberate us from samsara. As the great teacher said, "Now, when all the perfect conditions are available, strive with strong diligence to transcend existence." Although we have obtained this good basis, it is impermanent. As it says in the Bodhicharyavatara, "It is not reasonable to live comfortably, thinking that one will not die today. When I cease to exist, that will inevitably happen." As it is said, the body of each of us is like a bubble, and because it is unstable, it quickly decays. Life is like lightning in the sky, and it is impossible to know when one will die. Seeing many sudden deaths like planetary collisions, it is unreliable to think that one will not die even today. Therefore, do not postpone the action of accomplishing great things to the future, but from now on, engage in the sacred Dharma with diligence and steadfast perseverance.

It is necessary to do so. As it is said in the 'Admonition to Students': 'This will be done tomorrow, this will be done in a while, this will be done today,' if people think like this, Yama, holding a club in his hand, looks askance, his eyes red with anger, and emits a dry, hateful laugh. Thus, when the opportunity of obtaining a precious human body that is difficult to find and easy to lose is obtained, if one does not practice the supreme Dharma, the aspiration for lasting happiness, then even if one strives to accomplish the activities, wealth, enjoyment, fame, etc. of this life, it is meaningless, because all these temporary pleasures that seem like happiness are like a good dream in a nap, they change and pass away. No matter how great the happiness of this life may be, it will not follow you at the time of death, so it is of no benefit whatsoever. As it is said in the Jataka tales: 'Friends who part in an instant of enjoyment, wealth is like taking a bride in a dream, the glory of happiness is like the tip of a candle blown by the wind, these ways of the world are like the dance of a madman.' However, the merit and demerit accumulated for the sake of the happiness of this life will never be wasted, but like body and shadow, they will follow even after death and cannot be separated. If one has already committed sins, one cannot abandon them even if one does not want to. If one has not created merit oneself, one cannot take it away. No matter where one is born high or low in this samsara due to karma, the Protector Maitreya said: 'Just as there is no fragrance in unclean mud, there is no happiness in the five realms.' Therefore, one cannot escape the waves of suffering, like a patient suffering from constant pain, there is no opportunity for happiness. Among them, what can be done if one is born in the three lower realms? There is no certainty of not being born in the lower realms. Therefore, no matter what circumstances one encounters, one must not make mistakes in accepting and rejecting merit and demerit. As the Great Teacher (Padmasambhava) said: 'What good is sin, which has been the cause of suffering for many lifetimes, for the happiness of this life? This life is short, only a few years, for the immeasurable time of the next life, one should accept and reject merit and demerit as a method of obtaining happiness.' Thus, one should generate firm faith in the infallibility of karma. Inspired by this, even if one's life is at stake, one should make a vow not to make mistakes in accepting and rejecting merit and demerit. Because the happiness and wealth of samsara in this life and the next have no essence, one does not aspire to the state of higher realms.
