Ignorance is unknowing, its antidote is wisdom. What is wisdom? It is knowing that all phenomena are without inherent existence, without self. Searching for the self, one realizes that neither the self nor what is clung to as mine are established. Thus, ignorance is destroyed by wisdom. Anger is having malice and hatred towards others. Its antidote is loving-kindness. What is loving-kindness? It is abiding in compassion for all sentient beings, generating compassion for those who have not realized selflessness. Thus, anger is destroyed by loving-kindness. Desire is attachment and clinging to any object. Its antidote is knowing the absence of inherent existence. Therefore, knowing that objects are without inherent existence liberates one from attachment and clinging. Thus, desire is destroyed by the absence of inherent existence. Pride is holding oneself as the only great one. Its antidote is selflessness. Therefore, knowing that the self is without inherent existence, pride is destroyed by selflessness. Jealousy is having wrong suspicion towards others. Its antidote is the need to realize the meaning of no self and no other. Because the self is not established, the other is also not established. Thus, jealousy is destroyed by no self and no other. Thus, the five poisons are destroyed by their antidotes. This depends on the instructions of the lama. Through the lama's instructions, searching for what is clung to as self and clinging to self, one does not find the self or self-clinging. Because self-clinging is not found, one knows that the self and all phenomena of grasping and being grasped are without inherent existence, thereby reaching the view of the Middle Way. This is the outer five poisons being subdued by their antidotes. The inner five poisons are to be transformed into the five wisdoms and pacified. That is, when strong anger arises outwardly, what is anger itself? Turning the mind inward and looking at anger, one finds that anger is not established in form or color. Clear and unobstructed, anger is mirror-like wisdom. When strong pride arises outwardly, what is pride itself? Turning the mind inward and looking at pride, one finds that pride is not established. Self and other are equal and unmixed, pride is the wisdom of equality. When strong desire arises outwardly, what is desire itself? Turning the mind inward and looking at desire, one finds that the one who clings to desire is not established. Each is clear and unmixed, experiencing blissfully, desire is discriminating wisdom. When jealousy arises outwardly like having wrong suspicion towards others, looking inward, one finds that jealousy is not established in its essence. Because it is pure in nature, jealousy is accomplishing wisdom.

Looking outward, ignorance clings to the self, which is delusion. Looking inward, self-grasping is not established. Knowing that all phenomena are without inherent existence, delusion is the wisdom of the realm of dharma. To know this depends on the instructions of the lama. With the lama's instructions, when the five poisons arise outwardly, looking inward at the mind, the essence and nature of the five poisons are not established, and the five wisdoms of emptiness and clarity arise. Thus, the view arrives at mantra, and the five poisons are transformed into the five wisdoms. The secret is to know that the five poisons are not abandoned nor dwelt upon, but taken as the path. That is, the five afflictions: anger, delusion, pride, desire, and jealousy. Initially, they are born simultaneously with oneself, so they are difficult to abandon. In the middle, they abide simultaneously with oneself, so they are difficult to transform. When any of the five poisons arise, none of them are abandoned, nor are they transformed. Without altering or transforming the nature of mind, but leaving the mind clear and unceasing, the five poisons are self-purified and self-liberated. Like a bubble dissolving into water, or snow falling into the ocean, the five poisons are not abandoned by antidotes, nor do they remain in the ordinary state, but are naturally liberated. This also depends on the lama's instructions. With the lama's instructions, knowing that the five poisons are without inherent existence, and realizing that the nature of mind is without inherent existence, the view arrives at the Great Perfection. This is also called Mahamudra, and nominally it is also called Madhyamaka, and it is also called Prajnaparamita. The instruction is that the five poisons are not abandoned nor dwelt upon, but are liberated in their own place. Thus, pacifying the five poisons with the three doors of body, speech, and mind is also called the instruction of taking the five poisons as the path, and it is also called the instruction of taking the five poisons as dharmata. Instructions of Guru Padmasambhava, written down by Jomo Kharchenza Tsoyal, and hidden as a precious treasure for the benefit of future generations. May it meet with the fortunate and karmically connected one! (Tibetan) ཨྠྀི༔ (Sanskrit Devanagari) अथी (Sanskrit Romanization) athi (Literal Chinese meaning) Now.
