The nature of earth is not solid, and melting into water is not liquid, because it is not moist. The nature of fire is not fire, movement is the body of wind, and if nothing moves, it is not wind. Although the nature of emptiness is, the objects seen are white, green, and various colors, but they are not colors. All forms are not objects to be seen, but are due to the power of self-heart impurities, afflictions, and demons. The meaning of this is also explained in detail in the Great Commentary "Stainless Light." After recognizing this, all phenomena appearing as form, such as the five objects, the five senses, and colors, should be known as inseparable from appearance and emptiness. Also, in the bardo, the terrifying forms of wrathful deities, and the rain of light like weapons, etc., all fearful appearances are liberated in the expanse of self-appearance and emptiness, thereby attaining complete enjoyment and Buddhahood in the bardo. Therefore, please apply it to your mindstream. Strike the bell or drum. The speech of the wheel of inexhaustible adornment of all Buddhas of the three times, empowered by the roaring sound of speech, introduces the union of appearance and emptiness. Thus it is said. The inexhaustible wheel of adornment of the speech of all Buddhas of the three times is the inseparability of sound and emptiness, transcending words and letters. It is introduced based on the sound of this bell or drum. Moreover, in the Uttaratantra it says: The speech of the Buddhas is like an echo in the mountains, without letters. Also, in the Mayajala Tantra it says: True selflessness is suchness, the true limit is without letters, it is the supreme one who speaks of emptiness, proclaiming sound profoundly and extensively. Also, in the Lion's Roar Perfected Tantra it says: The essence of speech is empty of sound. Thus, in the state of emptiness without characteristics, like the sky, the Dharma that is profound and vast with sixty branches of sound and emptiness is taught appropriately to each individual. In the Stainless Light it says: Speech is the stainless mantra of unconditioned wisdom, the inexhaustible sound. Such a thing arises from the power of the merit of completing vast virtuous causes, and from the conditions of the aggregation of the minds of those to be tamed, but because it is free from conceptualization, it does not abide anywhere, it is emptiness. In the Uttaratantra it says: Just as the sound of an echo arises from the minds of others, without conceptualization and without fabrication, so it is with the Tathagata's.

Thus. That which arises from the consciousness of others, is without conceptualization and without fabrication, and does not abide in the outer or inner. So it is said. Then, one might wonder, from where do the words of the Dharma arise? The sutra says: Like the echo of a rock cliff, the words of the Dharma arise. This is because the echo of a rock cliff is emptiness, and cannot be established anywhere. The sutra says: Just as people in this forest valley, singing, clamoring, crying, and various sounds, the echo of a rock cliff appears, but there is no truth in it. All dharmas should be understood in this way. Thus, the nature of sound does not arise from anywhere, does not abide anywhere, and does not go anywhere. In the "Noble Eight Thousand Verse Prajnaparamita Sutra," it says: Son of good family, for example, the sound of a lute, when it arises, does not come from anywhere, and when it ceases, it does not go anywhere, nor does it transfer anywhere, but arises dependently, relying on causes, relying on conditions. For example, relying on the body of the lute, relying on the skin, relying on the strings, relying on the neck, relying on the bridge, relying on the effort produced by the person, the sound arises from the lute. However, this sound does not arise from the body of the lute, does not arise from the skin, does not arise from the strings, does not arise from the neck, does not arise from the bridge, nor does the sound arise from the effort produced by the person. Rather, it is when all of these are gathered together that the sound is produced, and when the sound ceases, it does not go anywhere. Likewise, son of good family, the nature of all dharmas should be understood in this way. Son of good family, the sound of the Buddha, the Bhagavan, is also completely accomplished, relying on causes, completely accomplished by many roots of virtue, not by one cause, not by one condition, not by one root of virtue is the Buddha's excellent distinction accomplished, nor is it without cause. Rather, it arises from the gathering of many causes and conditions, and it does not arise from anywhere. Thus, this principle should also be applied to the wood of the drum, the skin, and the effort of the hand that beats the drum. If it is a bell, this principle should also be applied to the bell's cavity, the clapper, and the effort of the hand, and so forth, and thus recognize it. Having recognized it in this way, one will know that the melodious voice of the Buddhas, the sounds of the four elements, and the languages of the six realms are sound and emptiness inseparable, and in the bardo.
