This great deity, the protector of the command of Great Compassion, the powerful and accomplished lord in the world, is essentially enlightened as Avalokiteśvara, unchanging from the beginning. The unobstructed power of his nature manifests in both peaceful and wrathful forms. Through the miraculous power of all-pervading compassion, he exists as a great deity. In the past, when the Buddha's teachings were flourishing and expanding greatly in all parts of India, the non-Buddhists could not bear it and harmed the teachings through various means, such as verbal debates and the use of knowledge and mantras to subdue the arrogant and offer opposition. In the south, many powerful worldly gods and nagas also granted siddhis to the non-Buddhist clans and harmed the Buddhists. At that time, knowing that the time to tame them had come, I went to the south and defeated all five hundred teachers in debate, causing them to decline. They harbored resentment and again practiced the art of knowledge and mantras in the sandalwood forest. There, at midnight in a victorious and empty place, the ground shook in the place where I was staying, the trees swayed and made sounds, and a red light, like a tower, swirled around, manifesting various miracles. I subdued and brought it under control with a vajra-like samadhi, and that light transformed into a single being, like a young man, red and beautiful, adorned with flower ornaments, and said, "What is your command? So it is! Those miracles are my power! Other beings, even my small miracles can summon and kill! Because I could not destroy the Guru's intention, I am ashamed of my unpleasant miracles. You are definitely the common glory of all Buddhas, so I respectfully prostrate. Please forgive me, I will become your servant. In this way, I offered the essence of my life, together with the precious points of the lineage. There, I made an unchangeable vow, entrusted it to the protector of the sacred Dharma, and bestowed empowerment, establishing the nourishment of the oath. There, I myself, with a peaceful mind, played from the realm of Dharma, and with the means of great compassion, placed the heretical teachers in a state of suicide. In the sandalwood forest, unpleasant miracles and various vajras were rained down like rain, the forest was set on fire, and the heretics and their retinues were all destroyed, making their names unknown, and the Buddha's teachings became like the rising sun. After that, I widely propagated the oral transmission related to the life of the great god, and separately taught it to those who were fortunate. Here, the profound essence of all oral instructions is separated; all the essence of the tantras is gathered into the heart essence of precious points, making it complete and meaningful, and it is taught in consideration of the minds of the fortunate disciples, the king and his sons, and the translator Vairochana. In general, in the age when the five degenerations are flourishing and thirty are declining, the light of the sky is fading, and there is too much rain; the essence of the earth is fading, and crops and plants do not grow; the fortune of beings is declining, and diseases and wars are prevalent. At that time, the power of the dark side increases, demons enter the hearts of all beings, temples and Dharma wheels are destroyed; the power of practitioners is taken away, and lives are threatened, and the border troops surge like the ocean. In particular, the nine powerful and fierce evil spirits that destroy Tibet enter the heart, and use various means of bewilderment and cruelty to create various uneasy sufferings in Tibet. At that time, those who follow me should do the work of subduing them. Moreover, it is difficult to subdue them with violent actions. Why? Because the view of realizing emptiness is the backing god, and obtaining the warmth of samadhi is a friend.
