Deprive the ignorant of their radiance, seize their roots, blood, and life force. Together with the retinue of those who have broken their vows, offer their bodies, flesh, blood, and life-breath as food. Devour them fiercely, annihilate them without a trace, reducing them to dust. Remember your past vows, and accomplish your activities right now. Furthermore, the assembled retinue includes gods, nagas, and spirits of the wind; gods, asuras; garudas, gandharvas, kinnaras; yakshas, rakshasas, hungry ghosts; pretas, flesh-eaters, those with decaying bodies; decaying ones, pot-bellied ghosts, elemental spirits; those who cause emaciation, those who cause madness, those who cast shadows; those who cause forgetfulness, oppressors, planetary spirits; those who steal splendor and inflict various harms. Their food is flesh, blood, fat, marrow, and oil; the life-stealing essence and the scent of tormas; rosaries, incense, flowers, and fruits; crops, mixtures, outer pus and blood; vomit, mucus, snot, and urine; the flow from torma holes, the drinking of impure substances. All such classes of spirits, unruly and untamed elemental beings, who roam at night, taking life-breath, and fiercely devour flesh, blood, and essence, those who dwell in mountains, dangerous valleys, lakes, and islands; in river valleys, streams, thickets; wherever they reside in waves and currents; in pleasure gardens and palaces; in sanghas, stupas, places, and cities; under trees, at village and city gates; in royal palaces, city regions; in mandalas, cemeteries, temples; in borders, gambling dens, and other places; in empty houses and sandbanks; and in all ten directions, wherever they are situated, all those who belong to the retinue, those who harbor intensely hateful minds, the foolish, unruly, and malicious, all these border armies, right now, turn them back, utterly destroy them, and annihilate them without a trace, reducing them to dust. Hūṃ! Great kings, together with your retinues, in this degenerate age of five defilements, the teachings of the Sugatas will still remain for many years. As long as the teachings remain, protect the teachings of the Victorious Ones, and out of love for beings, turn back the armies of hatred. May you accomplish this task of protection. In the first aeon of the past, when the teachings of the Victorious Shakyamuni were on the verge of destruction, you four gathered together and pledged to protect them.
