The Lamp of the Practice of the Great Vehicle, a Dharma Practice Sequence. Dharmaśrī. The Lamp of the Practice of the Great Vehicle, a Dharma Practice Sequence. Dharmaśrī. Herein is the Dharma Practice Sequence called The Lamp of the Practice of the Great Vehicle. Oṃ Svasti Siddham. This is called The Lamp of the Practice of the Great Vehicle, a sequence to be practiced for one full day and night by beginners. I prostrate to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Born from the ocean of the two accumulations, with the complete parts of wisdom and compassion, to the supreme Three Jewels who dispel the suffering of existence and peace, and to the inseparable great treasure, the Lama, I bow. For the sake of those who are beginners, a concise order of practice for the Dharma practice of each day and night, I will make The Lamp of the Practice of the Great Vehicle. Here, those who seek the ultimate, unsurpassed state of complete benefit for themselves and others, from the infinite sequence of vehicles spoken as a means to accomplish this, enter the path that suits their own mind. Since the root lies in practice itself, one should strive as much as possible in the practice of Dharma practice day and night. For a while, here is a summary showing the sequence: Since it is very difficult to find and meaningful when found, desiring to take the essence on the leisure and endowment support, urge with the whip of remembering impermanence and death, thinking about the suffering of samsara, generate the desire to be liberated. With the unwavering faith in the certainty of karma and its results, strive to abandon evil and accomplish virtue. Furthermore, with the yoga of rising at dawn, having risen, meditate on refuge, bodhicitta, and the yoga of the Lama. Receive empowerment and equally place the two stages on the path. In the morning, having done the bath of the hundred syllables, in front of the supports, prostrations etc., with the preliminary of the seven limbs, generate bodhicitta and take the vows of mantra. Make offerings to the Three Jewels, offer torma, water offerings, and give the five portions. Take the yoga of food, sutra dedication, and aspiration prayers, and clothing and conduct as the path of yoga. During the day, strive in the ten Dharma practices, and especially make extensive offerings and torma. Build Sugata images and plant tsa-tsas. To the Three Jewels, make prostrations and circumambulations, recite profound dharani mantras and read aloud. In the evening, according to the mantra treatises, refuge, bodhicitta, Vajrasatt

In the evening, practice meditation and recitation, and through the preliminary practices of accumulating merit and the Guru Yoga, clearly establish the protective circle, visualize the mandala of the chosen deity, and offer recitations, offerings, and torma. Offer common torma to protectors, dakinis, spirits, etc., according to their respective rituals, and pray for the fulfillment of wishes. In the evening, perform prostrations and other internal practices, and especially rest in equanimity in the state of the two stages of generation and completion. At midnight, sleep with the yoga of sleep. Especially on the nights of the eighth, fourteenth, new moon, and full moon, spend time teaching, listening, and practicing Dharma. On the tenth day of the waxing moon and the night of the waning moon, strive to engage in recitation, practice, tsog offering, and confession. In short, cultivate the habit of non-conceptual samadhi, the union of shamatha and vipashyana, and in the post-meditation state, benefit beings who are like illusions with compassion that is free from attachment, like an illusion. Thus, through the practice of the union of the two accumulations of merit and wisdom, ultimately accomplish the two benefits and manifest the three kayas. So it is. The following is an explanation of the meanings summarized by the verses. As it says in the Bodhicharyavatara: "This leisure is extremely difficult to obtain, it can accomplish the meaning of human life, if we do not practice virtue, how can we obtain this again later?" Therefore, one should recognize the benefit of obtaining a precious human body endowed with eight freedoms and ten endowments. Furthermore, as it says in the Suhrllekha: "Dwelling in a suitable place, relying on a noble person, generating good aspirations oneself, and having accumulated merit in the past, you possess the four great wheels." Therefore, one should understand the benefit of this supreme attainment, which is extremely difficult to obtain, accomplished by the four great wheels. The sutras say: "The three realms are impermanent like autumn clouds, the birth and death of beings is like watching a dance, the life of beings is like lightning in the sky, it passes quickly like a waterfall from a steep mountain." And, recognizing that this life vanishes quickly like a flash of lightning in the sky, and that all of samsara is of the nature of suffering, generate a firm mind of renunciation. The great teacher said: "The light of the path to liberation is like a precious lamp, the noble guru is like a guide, it is as rare to find as an udumbara flower, and obtaining it is like a wish-fulfilling jewel. Now is the time when all the perfect conditions are met."
