A general explanation of empowerments common to both old and new traditions, with examples of turning points for various specific branches. Dharma Shri. A general explanation of empowerments common to both old and new traditions, with examples of turning points for various specific branches. Dharma Shri. A general explanation of empowerments common to both old and new traditions, with examples of turning points for various specific branches. Herein lies the completion. Oṃ Svasti Siddhi Rastu. Om, may there be well-being, perfection, and increase). The master of the vast mandala wheel, the incomparable and venerable Terdak Lingpa, I constantly worship his lotus feet on my crown. Today, I will present a joyful feast of new explanations. Here, I will briefly discuss the general framework of empowerment explanations, along with examples of how to adapt them to specific needs. First, the students should perform preliminary practices such as bathing and prostrations, and then take their seats. With timely, clear, and pleasant speech, say: "Alas! In order to establish all sentient beings, who are equal to space, in the state of unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, will you receive the permission for this? In order to practice properly, please listen to the profound empowerment that reveals the root of the Vajrayana path." Thus, generate the supreme bodhicitta, and also the conduct of listening to the Dharma, as it is said in the Jataka tales: "Sit on a very low seat, greatly increase the splendor of gentleness, look with joyful eyes, and the words are like drinking nectar." Furthermore, it is said: "Having well gathered all thoughts, listen with a very good and virtuous intention. In an unforgetting mind, abide as Vajrasattva, etc. The Sugatas have blessed it." Thus, with respect for the virtuous spiritual friend, carefully guard the three doors of body, speech, and mind, and request to listen without being distracted elsewhere. Moreover, our teacher, the perfectly enlightened Buddha, with skillful means and great compassion, taught an inconceivable nectar of Dharma that is in accordance with the different inclinations, faculties, and capacities of sentient beings. If we gather all of these teachings, they can be summarized into three vehicles. In the Vajra Heart Commentary, it is said: "There is no fourth or fifth Buddhahood, it is not the intention of the Able One." Therefore, there are the Shravaka Vehicle, the Pratyekabuddha Vehicle, and the Mahayana.

Since all vehicles of liberation are included in three, there is no fourth vehicle. However, within the three, due to the differences in mind, there are many categories of vehicles, which is not contradictory. As stated in the Lankavatara Sutra: "I have taught many kinds of vehicles, to tame sentient beings. I have taught different vehicles, but I have shown them as one vehicle. As long as the mind enters into them, there is no end to the vehicles." Therefore, in general, there are two vehicles of higher realms, and three or five vehicles of definite goodness, as stated in the sutra. As it says: "The vehicle of gods and the vehicle of Brahma, likewise the Hearers, likewise the Tathagatas and the Self-Realized Ones, all vehicles have been taught." It also says: "The two vehicles of higher realms are gathered into one. The vehicle of the Tathagatas of definite goodness is divided into two, Bodhisattva and Mantra, and thus there are also teachings of five." The Guhyagarbha Tantra says: "With four vehicles, there is definite departure, abiding in the fruit of one vehicle." Among these, the vehicle of higher realms refers to the ability to attain the state of humans and desire gods by believing in karma and its results, and practicing the abandonment of non-virtue and the adoption of virtue without error. Therefore, it is spoken of with the word 'chief,' and is called the vehicle of gods. On top of that, meditating on worldly concentration and formless samadhi is the vehicle of Brahma because it is purified from the afflictions of desire. These two are worldly vehicles, and therefore cannot particularly liberate beings from samsara. As the Compendium says: "This vehicle is like a vast, immeasurable palace in the sky, it is the supreme vehicle that obtains joy, happiness, and bliss, riding on it, all sentient beings turn away from suffering." Because it is different from this, it is not a true vehicle. Even so, because it possesses the correct view and engages in the ten virtuous actions, it is the basis or precursor of all vehicles of liberation, and therefore becomes a stepping stone to the path. As the Hevajra Tantra says: "Starting from the ten virtues, thereby distinguishing its Dharma." Moreover, Master Sangye Lama said in the Lamrim: "First establish the vehicle of the foundation." The Ratnavali also says: "If one practices human Dharma well, the journey to the realm of gods is not far. If one climbs the ladder of gods and humans, liberation is near."
