Solely in them, take refuge in the Three Jewels! Here, in the supreme tradition of Secret Mantra, all sources of refuge are complete in the Lama. Visualize the place where you are as a vast and pure realm. In the sky in front of you, on a lotus, sun, and Vam (Tibetan: བཾ, Sanskrit Devanagari: वं, Sanskrit Romanization: vaṃ, Chinese literal meaning: Vam) Ro, the root Lama himself is the Bhagavati Vajrakrodheshvari, the Black Wrathful Mother, with her face, hand gestures, ornaments, and attire completely perfect, blazing with a fire of wisdom, and residing in a realm of inconceivable light rays. Clearly establish this through the stages of the path. This very Lama is the essence of the Three Jewels, the nature of the ocean of the Three Roots, inseparable from the Three Kayas, and the great essence of all sources of refuge combined. With heartfelt faith and devotion, gather all beings equal to the sky, including yourself and others, into one intention, and with intense devotion and longing, thinking, "Whatever you do, only you know," take refuge, reciting hundreds and thousands of times. Again, with intense devotion, rays of light emanate from the Lama's body, touching all sentient beings, including yourself and others. Purify all sins, obscurations, and habitual tendencies along with their seeds. May the blessings of all sources of refuge enter your being. Finally, think that they dissolve into light and merge into you, and rest your mind in a state of non-conceptualization. This is the object of refuge. Then, after taking the vows of aspiration and engagement, the instructions are bestowed: Listen, fortunate ones! Having taken the vows of aspiration and engagement, constantly keeping their object in mind is the root of the path to omniscience. Therefore, one should think like this: It is not beneficial to liberate oneself alone from the suffering of the terrifying samsara. All sentient beings are our kind mothers. Although they all desire happiness, they are unskilled in the means and only experience the results of suffering. How pitiful! In order to liberate all these beings from suffering and its causes and to attain the supreme bliss of Buddhahood, I alone must accomplish this. Therefore, I must attain Buddhahood by any means! Such Buddhahood must also rely on the path of the Great Vehicle in general. Among these, the one that enables one to attain Buddhahood quickly and with little effort is only this supreme path of the Great Secret. Therefore, one should practice this profound and swift path of Vajrayana.

Relying on this, with just one lifetime and one body, may I attain the state of complete enlightenment, and may I place all sentient beings in the supreme state of enlightenment that does not abide in either samsara or nirvana. Think about this again and again, and clearly declare it with words. Whatever you do, train to transform it into benefiting others. This is the object of generating bodhicitta. Samaya. After taking the vows, the instruction is bestowed: Listen, you fortunate ones! Those who train on the path of Vajrayana must properly take and protect the three vows. If there is even a slight fault of breaking the samaya, you should confess and retake the vows. In general, in order to purify the obstacles and downfalls that arise in experience and realization, and in order to accumulate the favorable conditions and accumulations, you must strive in many ways. Therefore, first, rely on the practice and recitation of Vajrasattva, and clearly establish the object of purifying sins and downfalls: Āḥ! (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Romanization, Chinese literal meaning) Ah! On the lotus and moon seat on the crown of my head, Is the kind root guru himself, In the form of Vajrasattva, White and clear, holding a vajra and bell, Adorned with silks, jewels, and bone ornaments, Embraced by the proud mother holding a curved knife and skull cup, In the vajra lotus posture, He dwells in the expanse of wisdom light. On the moon in his heart is a white and clear Hūṃ, Surrounded by the mantra of the hundred syllables, I think of all the Sugatas, And the blessings of their speech gathered together. Having clearly established the support for confessing sins and downfalls, with a strong sense of regret for past misdeeds, and with a vow not to do them again in the future: Oṃ! (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Romanization, Chinese literal meaning) Om! Lama, glorious Vajrasattva, Think of me, a protectorless one, From beginningless lifetimes, Until this present moment, All the sins, downfalls, and karmas I have accumulated, I confess with intense regret, I vow not to do them again in the future, Grant me the accomplishment of great purity. Having prayed in this way, a stream of nectar descends continuously from the seed syllable and mantra garland in his heart. It comes from the union, enters through my own Brahma hole, fills my entire body, and I think that all diseases, evil spirits, sins, and downfalls are purified without remainder, and recite the hundred-syllable mantra as much as possible. Finally, having given permission to purify sins and obscurations, think that the Vajrasattva father and mother dissolve into yourself, and remain in a state of non-distraction and non-absorption. Like that
