Concise Explanation of the Practice Manual for the True Essence. Written by Changme Dorje. Concise Explanation of the Practice Manual for the True Essence. Concise Explanation of the Practice Manual for the True Essence. Herein. Om Svasti. (藏文:ཨོཾ་སྭསྟི།) Heruka, Lord of Great Bliss, (藏文:བདེ་ཆེན་ཁྱབ་བདག་ཧེ་རུ་ཀ) Mother, Sovereign of the Realm of Emptiness, (藏文:སྟོང་ཉིད་དབྱིངས་ཀྱི་དབང་ཕྱུག་མ) Guru, the Union, the True Deity, (藏文:ཟུང་འཇུག་བླ་མ་ཡང་དག་ལྷ) Having paid homage, I will easily spread the practice manual. Here, if one wishes to engage in the practice of glorious Yangdak, there are three things to know: the object of focus, the means of practice, and the result of accomplishment. First, what is the object of focus? Since the deity of the practice base inherently exists within oneself, when encountering conducive circumstances on the path, the qualities of the result will certainly arise. In order to generate joy in the qualities of both the supreme and common siddhis to be attained, one must train on the path. Furthermore, it is said: The sole True Accomplishment, (藏文:ཡང་དག་གྲུབ་པ་གཅིག་པུ་ཉིད) The union of all Buddhas of Great Bliss, (藏文:སངས་རྒྱས་བདེ་ཆེན་ཀུན་འདུས་པ) The profound yoga, complete with the three kayas, (藏文:རྣལ་འབྱོར་ཟབ་མོ་སྐུ་གསུམ་རྫོགས) The supreme bliss of the illusory dakinis. (藏文:མཁའ་འགྲོ་སྒྱུ་མ་བདེ་བའི་མཆོག) This is also stated. Second, there are five means of practice: the practitioner, the place of practice, the time of practice, the necessary equipment, and the manner of practice. First, the practitioner: Based on having been matured by empowerment and abiding by the samayas, on top of that, to attain siddhis, both cause and condition must be complete. Having the intention to attain the result to be accomplished is the cause. Having unwavering diligence with faith in the deity and the instructions, and Having the wisdom to realize the key points of what is to be purified and the purifier is the condition. Second, the place: As stated in the Seven Vajra Verses: an island in the water, or a cave in the snow mountains, or a charnel ground, or a place where gods and demons clash, or a place where people do not travel. Previous practitioners said: Seek a very secluded place for practice. However, it is difficult to accomplish these for mere daily practice and recitation. Therefore, a secluded place where the mind is joyful and there is no harm is definitely necessary. As stated in the root text of the practice method of the Nine Deities: Wherever the yogi resides is the external place. The body of the practitioner is the internal place. One's own mind abiding in itself is the secret place. Thus it is said. Third, the time: The time to enter practice and the duration of practice. First: As stated in the text of practice

One should establish the mandala and practice on an auspicious day or at an auspicious time. As it is said in the Guhyagarbha Tantra, "Beginning on the eighth day, under auspicious stars." As it is said. However, if the stars are auspicious, it can also be done during the dark moon (waning phase). Second: The text says, "When the time is ripe or signs appear, one can obtain accomplishment." Therefore, the time can be a year, six months, or three months, etc. The number can be two hundred and fifty thousand, one hundred and sixty thousand, or even one. The signs are: until various signs and powers appear, continue reciting. Fourth, the implements: The root text says, "On the outside skull cup, there should be the face of Mahakala, nine skull cups should have the face of Gauri, the inner offerings should be marked with nine drops of auspicious red bodhicitta, and the secret offering should be nine lamps lit in one vessel." As mentioned above, one needs to prepare the items for recitation and practice such as the mandala, as well as the food and drink to sustain life, medicine and doctors to avert obstacles, and all the necessary items for offerings, etc. below. Fifth, the method of how to practice is divided into three parts: preliminary, main practice, and concluding activities. First is the Vajra Seven Line Prayer. In order to purify the yogi's karma and habitual tendencies, one should strive to do good deeds as much as possible. Perform ganachakras for peaceful and wrathful deities and dakinis. By accumulating the two accumulations of merit and wisdom, once the two obscurations are purified, even without seeking it, the accomplishments of the deities will naturally come. As it is said, one should make offerings to the supports of the Three Jewels, recite texts such as five hundred thousand times, offer service to the Sangha, make tsa-tsas, ransom lives, perform death rituals, hold children's feasts, offer water torma, etc., whether done by oneself or entrusted to others, one should strive to increase the power of virtue as much as possible. If the place is a new practice room, then it is necessary to perform the land consecration according to the practice manual, but here it is assumed to be an old practice room. After cleaning the room, recite one's own yoga there, briefly contemplate the ritual, and then dissolve the wheel of the mandala into light. Transform oneself into the form of the main deity, Mahakala, and offer tormas to the white-sided deities such as the local deities and entrust them with activities. Offer obstacle-dispelling tormas to the black-sided deities, subdue them with commands, recite wrathful mantras, burn gugul incense, etc., and dispel the obstructing forces with fierce power.
