Pile up the effigy of the Lord of Death in front. Then, consecrate all the funerary offerings with the mantra and mudra of the Treasury of Space, and dedicate them with satisfaction: Hum! (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ།) To the Lord of Death, Yama, and his retinue, I offer corresponding wealth as funerary provisions. Wish-fulfilling jewels of the five kinds, Grains, meat, butter, brown sugar, and cheese, Tea, honey, butter lamps, Medicine, incense, and silk, And various clothes and ornaments. This vast array of wish-fulfilling enjoyments, Today, so-and-so, Before the Lord of Death and his retinue, Due to ignorance and carelessness, Whatever offenses and transgressions have been committed, I offer them as atonement and compensation. I offer them as the price and substitute for life, I offer them to compensate for the un-killed debt, I offer them to repay the un-stolen debt, I offer them as a debt for the un-committed act. I offer, please accept and take them, May the anger in your heart be pacified, With a mind of peace and benefit, I pray that the fear of death be dispelled. Thus recite, and pile up the funerary offerings around the effigy. Then, bathe with incense water that has been recited with mantras, and pour the bathwater into the ransom. Contemplate that you are free from all fear of death. Then, turn the arrows and other objects upside down, and with the fierce pride of samadhi, speak these words: Hum! (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ།) Listen, King Yama, Lord of Death! You are the magical power of karma, You are the great lord of the lives of beings, You are the Yama of all the dead, You are the one who determines the death of the living, You are the judge who distinguishes between good and evil, To you and your retinue, Today, so-and-so, I offer the ransom of life and lifespan. May you be pleased and satisfied, Release the captured and untie the bound, Without transgressing your command and oath, Enjoy this excellent offering, Go, go elsewhere! Do not cause harm in the future! If there are any past karmic debts, May they be freed by this offering! If you transgress the teachings of the great Buddha, You will be reduced to dust! Therefore, great obstructer, please leave! Do not transgress the sacred oath! Or, perform the empowerment as before. By doing this, the signs of the exhaustion of life, etc., will be liberated. If that doesn't reverse it, do it again. This will surely extend the life of beings whose life is exhausted by five years. Samaya! To deceive death as in the inner (practice): From Hūṃ (ཧཱུྃ，हुं，hūṃ，Hūṃ), visualize within a stable vajra horn tent, from Bhrūṃ (བྷྲཱུྃ，भ्रूं，bhrūṃ，Bhrūṃ), visualize within a seamless skull-cup house, in the vajra nature, one's own mind essence as the yidam, appearing as a skeletal form, in the heart, visualize Hrīḥ (ཧྲཱིཿ，ह्रीः，hrīḥ，Hrīḥ) like a flame, clear and radiant. From that (Hrīḥ), radiate light, summon the signs of dreams, etc., to the top of the protective wheel, cut them with weapons, burn them with fire, dissolve the essence into oneself, and with each breath, recite twenty-one Bhrūṃ (བྷྲཱུྃ，भ्रूं，bhrūṃ，Bhrūṃ)s. When inhaling, hold the upper air; when exhaling, reverse and clap your hands.
