Beings gathered by breath are born and cannot escape death. Moreover, no one can predetermine how long they will live, so it is uncertain when they will die, like a dance transformed by the hands of a dancer. The causes of death are very numerous, and life vanishes quickly, like lightning flashing across the sky. Each moment approaches death, like water flowing down a steep mountain, or like the shadow of the setting sun growing longer, so one should be filled with intense fear of the rapidly approaching death, and not be controlled by indifference and apathy. Like a coward hiding a snake in his bosom, one should immediately abandon the affairs of this life and cultivate the sacred Dharma from this very moment, with great diligence, devoting body, speech, and mind entirely to virtuous deeds. It is very important to make such a vow. The Omniscient Dharma Lord said, "This life is impermanent like a clay pot. The appearances of tomorrow and the next life, it is uncertain which will come first, so from today, accumulate the sacred Dharma." As he said. The third is to contemplate the results of karma. In the Sutra of Advice to the King, it says, "When the time comes for the king to depart, enjoyments, friends, and relatives do not follow. Wherever beings dwell or go, karma follows like a shadow." This means that after one dies, one departs without any support, or one cannot freely choose where to be reborn, so what is there to fear? It is not like that. When death comes and one must go to the next life, even if one has wealth like a mountain, one cannot take even a needle and thread. No matter how many friends, relatives, and servants one has, one cannot take even one person as a companion. The body is left behind, and when consciousness wanders in the bardo, the good and bad deeds one has done in this life accompany one. Good deeds bring happiness such as being born in higher realms, and bad deeds lead to suffering such as falling into lower realms. One will not encounter karma that one has not created, and even the smallest good deed will not be wasted. The results of black and white karma will not be reversed, and will ripen separately in one's own mindstream. Even if the cause accumulated is small, it will ripen into a great result, so in all circumstances, one should accumulate even the smallest good deeds, and be cautious of even the smallest bad deeds, striving to adopt and abandon. As it says in the Sutra: Body

The actions of those with land, even for a hundred kalpas, will not be wasted. When they gather and the time arrives, they will ripen into fruit. Thus it is said. Fourth, contemplating the faults of samsara: In the Vinaya Sutra, it says: Due to the power of craving, existence, and ignorance, beings, humans and gods, and the three evil destinies, unskilled, revolve in the five realms, like a potter's wheel turning. It also says: The three realms blaze with the suffering of old age and disease, here the fire of death blazes fiercely, without a protector. Born from existence, beings are always deluded, like a bee trapped in a jar, spinning around. Thus it is said. Having thus gained certainty in the law of karma, is it enough to practice abandoning virtue and vice and enjoying the happiness of higher realms? If you think so, it is not enough. Because this samsara has ignorance as its cause and desire as its condition, the illusion of the three existences arises, with gods and humans, animals, hungry ghosts, and hells, the three evil destinies. Asuras, the upper part belonging to the gods and the lower part to the hungry ghosts, together the five realms of beings, like a potter's wheel turning, from beginningless time until now, are born again and again, and always experience the cause and effect of suffering. Still, they will wander in endless samsara and experience suffering. In the higher realms, there is the suffering of change, in the three evil destinies, there is the suffering of suffering, and generally, they are tormented by the suffering of conditioning. No matter where one is born in the higher or lower realms of samsara, there is never an opportunity for happiness, like a criminal trapped in a prison, or like a patient afflicted with a severe illness. Therefore, now one must resolve to be liberated from this ocean of samsara and strive to practice the sacred Dharma that will surely attain lasting happiness. As Gyaltsab Je said: Just as there is no fragrance in impurity, there is no happiness in the five realms. Its suffering is always like the touch of fire, weapons, salt, and so on. Thus it is said. Second, the uncommon preliminaries have four parts: introducing the path to liberation, purifying obstacles and downfalls, increasing conducive conditions and the two accumulations, and especially bestowing blessings. The first has two aspects, as the text says: Connect with supreme renunciation, take refuge in the infallible Three Jewels, aspiration and entering into
