The preliminary practice from The Quintessential Profound Guru's Ornament of Thought, a guide to the Great Perfection, the All-Encompassing Union of Profound Treasures, entitled "The Easy Path to Liberation." Padma Garwangchuk. Herein lies the text entitled "The Easy Path to Liberation," an excerpt of the preliminary practice from The Quintessential Profound Guru's Ornament of Thought, a guide to the Great Perfection, the All-Encompassing Union of Profound Treasures. Namo Guru Padmakaraya. Those who possess the karmic connection of virtue and the fortune of the profound path, if they wish to first engage in the preliminary stages, should understand that there are two types: the general preliminaries for the two stages, and the specific preliminaries for Dzogchen. The first of these also has two aspects, general and specific. Generally, at the beginning of all sessions, to pacify obstacles and invoke blessings, one should make the following supplication: In a secluded place, sit upright on a comfortable seat, and with three expulsions of stale air, visualize that the sins and obscurations of body, speech, and mind are purified. In the space in front, on a lotus, sun, and moon cushion, is Padmasambhava, the guru inseparable from the vidyadharas, the essence of the rainbow. Adorned with a pandita hat and dharma robes, with two hands, one holding a vajra phurba pointing upwards, the nostrils round and the white light of A clear. On rainbow wings, wrathful deities, male and female, rejoice. Seated in the vajra posture, the three syllables adorn the three places, rays of wisdom light radiate, blessings transform. I supplicate the guru! I supplicate the guru dharmakaya! I supplicate the guru! I supplicate the guru sambhogakaya! I supplicate the guru! I supplicate the guru nirmanakaya! I supplicate the guru rinpoche, the embodiment of all refuges! Please swiftly grant me all supreme and common accomplishments! After reciting this as many times as possible, the vajra speech supplication of the vidyadhara himself, such as (HRIH, Devanagari: ह्रीः, Romanization: hrīḥ, Literal Meaning: Seed Syllable Hrih) "Unfabricated, spontaneously accomplished, primordially pure, self-arisen," is extremely important and beneficial, so recite it once or three times, etc. Then, focus the mind on the three syllables at the three places of the body, and recite (OM AH HUNG, Devanagari: ओम् आः हुं, Romanization: oṃ āḥ hūṃ, Literal Meaning: Om Ah Hung), and then rest in non-conceptuality. Specifically, the general preliminaries of the two stages have three parts: common and uncommon.

And, the special preliminaries. First, to encourage the mind towards Dharma, contemplate the difficulty of finding leisure and endowments: This leisure and endowment is extremely difficult to find. Having achieved the meaning of human life, if you do not cultivate its benefit, how will you obtain this perfection in the future? Contemplate impermanence of death: The three realms of existence are impermanent, like autumn clouds. The birth and death of beings is like watching a dance. The life of beings passes like lightning in the sky, flowing swiftly like water flowing down a steep mountain. Contemplate the law of karma: When time approaches, even a king will depart. Enjoyment, friends, and relatives will not follow. Wherever beings are, wherever they go, karma will follow like a shadow. Contemplate the faults of samsara: Due to the power of craving, existence, and ignorance, beings, in the three states of humans, gods, and evil destinies, revolve endlessly in the five paths, like a potter's wheel turning. The three realms of existence are ablaze with the suffering of old age and disease. Here, the fire of death blazes fiercely, without protection. Born from existence, beings are always deluded, revolving like a bee trapped in a jar. These are the immaculate words of the perfect Buddha, which should be diligently recited and meditated upon. Second, the uncommon preliminaries are four. First, the foundation of all vehicles, great and small, taking refuge: In the sky of a pure land, rainbow clouds, a three-tiered stack of precious lotuses, in the center of the stamen, the embodiment of all Buddhas, Guru Padmasambhava resides with a smiling light. Around it, on the first lotus ground, the root, branch, and lineage lamas surround it. On the second level, the deities of the four and six tantras. On the third level, the assembly of dakinis, wisdom, and dharma protectors. Behind them, on the four sides, lotus trees grow luxuriantly, in front are Shakyamuni Buddha and the Buddhas of the ten directions and three times, on the right are Avalokiteshvara and the assembly of bodhisattvas, behind are the scriptures of Dharma with transmission and realization, on the left are Shariputra and the assembly of shravakas and pratyekabuddhas, in the clouds gods and goddesses offer offerings, in front of them are myself and all sentient beings as vast as space, from now until the essence of enlightenment, take refuge with great respect in body, speech, and mind. Having visualized clearly in this way, recite: Om Ah Hum (藏文:ཨོཾ་ཨཱཿཧཱུྃ༔,梵文天城体:ओम् आः हूँ,梵文罗马拟音:oṃ āḥ hūṃ,汉语字面意思:嗡啊吽), take refuge in the holy refuge.
