The Heart Practice Illuminating the Three Roots from the Lama Gongpa Duspa: The Practice and Activities of the Heart Jewel. Written by Sangye Lingpa. The Heart Practice Illuminating the Three Roots from the Lama Gongpa Duspa: The Practice and Activities of the Heart Jewel. Written by Sangye Lingpa. From the Lama Gongpa Duspa, the Heart Practice Illuminating the Three Roots: The Practice and Activities of the Heart Jewel. Namo Guru Deva Dakini Hum! Homage to the Guru, Deva, Dakini, Hum!) The body, speech, and mind of all Buddhas, The great treasury of qualities and activities, To the assembly of lamas, yidams, and dakinis, I prostrate to protect beings. From the complete realization of the lamas, yidams, and dakinis, From the Heart Jewel, which illuminates the heart practice of the secret root, Have signs of increasing recitation and accomplishment appeared, such as the bursting forth of many treasure troves of precious jewels, and being honored, revered, and prostrated to by all? Have signs such as becoming a guide for others appeared? Ultimately, have signs of attaining siddhis appeared? Or have uncommon signs of body, speech, and mind appeared? If so, when engaging in practice and activities, there are two aspects: general and specific. Generally, the six frameworks of the great practice of Gongpa Duspa, and the nectar practices that generate siddhis, should be guided by the clear mirror of the Pra Guide. Practice whatever can be accomplished according to the teachings of each text. The yogi should act according to their own perceptions and desires, and continue practicing each of these until signs of accomplishment appear. As for activities, whatever is needed should be elaborated upon in order to benefit oneself and others, and all generation and completion stages should be enjoyed. Specifically, the beginning of practice and activities is practice. There are three general points to practice: preliminaries, main practice, and conclusion. The first general point is the preliminaries, which have five aspects: accumulating resources and engaging in practice, preparing offerings, accumulating tsok, purifying obscurations, and establishing boundaries. First, accumulating resources has two aspects: common and uncommon. The common resources are: weapons to repel enemies, medicine to repel diseases, sufficient time for practice and retreat, nourishing food and drink to revitalize the body, clothes and cushions to support the body, and offerings, tormas, tsok offerings, rakta, and whatever else is needed.

Practice Paraphernalia: The Dharma friends for practice should ideally be seven fellow practitioners or no more than twenty-one; they must be obedient, respectfully serving, and abiding by their vows, ensuring that everything needed, even water and firewood, is fully prepared. In short, once you begin practicing, it is crucial to prepare everything in advance so that you do not need to exert effort or be distracted by external affairs until you emerge from retreat. If you need to go out to search for things during the practice, demons and obstacles will seize the opportunity to enter, and the practice will decline as a result. There are many such faults, so it is essential to understand this key point. The special equipment includes: practice materials, support materials, and accomplishment materials. The first is: The practice material for the Guru Dharmakaya is a flawless, multi-faceted clear crystal; the practice material for the Sambhogakaya is a round mirror without cracks or blemishes, no smaller than four fingers if unavailable; the practice material for the Nirmanakaya: ideally, it should contain all the deities of the nine mandalas, moderately the nine principal deities, and at the very least, images of the Guru, Hayagriva, and Vajravarahi, drawn on silk, cloth, or paper, whichever is available, i.e., tsakli; the practice material for peaceful Yidam is five-colored silk; the practice material for wrathful deities is a qualified skull; the practice material for peaceful-wrathful deities is a perfect, flawless vase with proper measurements; the external practice material for Dakinis is a copper gau box no smaller than a hand's grasp, with the size adjusted according to the situation. Internal practice materials: gold, silver, jade, conch shell, coral, pearl; secret practice materials are red and white bodhicitta. Support materials: as shown in the life-wheel diagrams of the Three Roots. Accomplishment materials: nectar (Tibetan: བདུད་རྩི་, Sanskrit Devanagari: अमृत, Sanskrit Romanization: amṛta, Chinese literal meaning: immortality), vermillion, the red and white bodhicitta of the Guru and consort, the six excellent substances: camphor, red and white sandalwood, rue, borneol, golden arura, the five senses, honey, molasses, white milk, red milk, yak butter, chang (barley beer), and three kinds of rice wine, five grains, various fruits, various foods, etc. In addition, to gather and please the Guru, Yidam, and Dakinis, one should prepare: lotus hats, silk hats, headdresses, hand drums, instrument boxes, bent knives, vajras, bells, khatvangas, skull cups, hand drums, human thighbone trumpets, large incense offerings, and butter lamps with clarified butter, etc. All beautiful and pleasing offerings should be accumulated as much as possible. Having gathered the equipment in this way, the practice is divided into three aspects: place.
