Secret Instructions on the Condensed Essence of the Jewel from the Meaning Instructions on the Three Roots and Fruition. Secret Instructions on the Condensed Essence of the Jewel from the Meaning Instructions on the Three Roots and Fruition. From the Meaning Instructions on the Three Roots and Fruition: The Secret Instructions on the Condensed Essence of the Jewel, the beginning section composed by Ratna Lingpa. Namo Guru Shri! (藏文,梵文天城体:श्री,梵文罗马拟音:shrī,汉语字面意思:Auspicious) The root of all blessings is the Lama, the source of accomplishments is the assembly of Yidam deities, the Dakini who dispels all obstacles. With reverence, I prostrate to the Three Roots. From the profound instructions on the meaning of the Fruition, which combines the essence of these three into one, this Secret Instruction on the Condensed Essence of the Jewel, extracting the essence from the essence, I, myself, will record this extracted essence here. To practice this instruction on the Three Roots and Fruition, there are three stages: preliminary practices, the main practice, and the concluding practice. First, there are five preliminaries: Recognizing the difficulty of obtaining leisure and endowment, contemplating impermanence and death, reflecting on the suffering of samsara and transforming the mind away from samsara, seeing the qualities of liberation and practicing the Dharma with the eagerness of a starving person eating dry meat, taking refuge to enter the Buddhist teachings, avoiding following wrong paths such as those of the Tirthikas, and being protected from samsara, generating Bodhicitta to avoid following the lesser vehicles of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, entering the vows of the Great Vehicle, the unsurpassed Secret Mantra, relying on the Mandala to perfect the accumulation of merit, and through that, perfecting the accumulation of wisdom, which is the result, relying on the recitation of the Hundred Syllable Mantra to purify the obscurations of body, speech, and mind, and internally, restoring the breaches of the root and branch Samayas, and through the supplication of Guru Yoga, receiving the four empowerments in the manner of a transmission, and thereby obtaining blessings and accomplishments. Secondly, the uncommon preliminary practices of the main practice are five: First, purifying the obscurations of body, speech, and mind, and attaining the fruition of the three Kayas through the recitation of the three syllables, resting naturally in the state of reality, without allowing awareness to wander to external objects, gathering it back to oneself, without tightening awareness, but loosening it naturally, without letting awareness sink into dullness, but letting it remain naturally clear. These are the five. The essential points for engaging in the main practice are eleven: analytical meditation and resting meditation.
