Napaṇa. It is entering the third fruit of a Bodhisattva, namely, striving to obtain the fruit of a Śrāmaṇa who has abandoned the five final conforming parts to be obtained by the Mahāyāna. Those two are, like the previous entering the stream, only one. A hero abiding on the path of liberation, having abandoned the ninth affliction of desire, abides in the non-returning fruit of a Bodhisattva, namely, abiding in the fruit of a Śrāmaṇa who is well distinguished by abandoning the five final conforming parts to be obtained by the Mahāyāna path. That itself is of five kinds. Among them, the first, a Bodhisattva passing away in the intermediate state, is said to have abandoned the binding of being born in the form realm, but at the time of establishing the intermediate existence of form, without abandoning the binding of manifest realization, he manifests the path and obtains the end of suffering. Here, the meaning of obtaining the end of suffering is the manifest realization of liberation from the coarse afflictive obscurations, the cause of birth in the three realms. That is also obtained from the eighth ground, because there all afflictions are abandoned without exception. As it is said, in the Madhyamakāvatāra: "On the eighth ground, those stains are extinguished, roots and branches are nearly pacified." Thus it is said. If it is asked whether entering the fruit of an Arhat is taught on the tenth ground, and whether there is still something to be abandoned, the ninth affliction of the peak of existence, for that, the answer is that it is without fault because it is done under the power of the subtle habitual tendencies of the afflictions. The second, passing away after being born, is said to manifest the path as soon as one is born in the form realm without abandoning both bindings, and to manifest the liberation of abandoning the coarse afflictive obscurations of the three realms. The third, passing away with effort, is said to manifest the path with effort after being born in the form realm without abandoning both bindings, and to manifest the liberation of abandoning the coarse afflictive obscurations of the three realms. The fourth, passing into sorrow without effort, is said to pass into sorrow after manifesting the path without effort. The fifth is ascending upwards, and of those two, the first, going to the ultimate end of Akanistha, is said to be ascending upwards by leaping, half-leaping, and dying and transferring in all places, other than going to the ultimate end of the peak of existence, there are three kinds. The first is said to be from meditating on alternating concentrations here, the first

Having declined from the higher meditations due to physical suffering, one is born in the Brahma realm in the next life, and there, through the power of habituation, develops meditation, enters Akanishta, and there obtains the cessation of suffering. The second case is: similar to the former, but in the second birth, one is born in any of the three lower Pure Abodes. The third case is: except for the Great Brahma, one passes through the other form realms in sequence, and finally ceases suffering in Akanishta. The second, the non-returner who goes to the end of the peak of existence, is: one does not seek to be born in the formless realm, because that is not a place for taming sentient beings. Therefore, it is only because one is free from attachment to form that one has the ability to be born there. This can be divided into: when the fruit of non-return is obtained, suffering is ceased immediately, that is, peace is obtained in the present dharma; and the other two cases other than transferring upwards from Akanishta, which are realized through the body of the eight liberations and samadhi. The fourth case is: entering the fruit of Arhat, which refers to a Bodhisattva who strives from abandoning the eighth affliction of the peak of existence to striving to abandon the ninth, in order to obtain the fruit of a Shramana who has abandoned the five lower fetters through the Mahayana path. The fifth, the solitary realizer Bodhisattva like a rhinoceros, is: born in a world where Buddhas do not appear and there are no other Bodhisattvas, taking the Hearer Vehicle's collection of teachings as the object, and manifesting the path of abandoning the afflictive obscurations, thus being a Bodhisattva who ceases suffering. In the commentary, it is said that this is taking the Hearer Vehicle's collection of teachings as the object, which refers to the assumption that there is no Mahayana teaching, but only the Hearer Vehicle's teaching. If the Mahayana teaching exists, because there are Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, there will be competitors, so one will not become a solitary realizer like a rhinoceros. Even if there are Hearers, because they are inferior to oneself, one will not become a competitor. Being able to explain according to the intention of the master Gendun Chopel, it has appeared in the land of snows before. Difficult to understand, explained by Gendun.
