The first part includes where the fruit abides and the classification of the individuals who abide there. First, regarding the nature, number, order of determination, cause of attainment, and what is attained in which realm of the fruit, the first of these five is the fruit of the Shramana, because it is the most excellent of fruits. It is also the nature of both abandonment and realization. Each of these fruits has eighty-nine, namely, the four types of view to be abandoned in the desire realm, and the four types of view to be abandoned in the upper two realms, the eight liberations obtained after abandoning these eight, and the path of liberation that obtains them. Each of the nine grounds has nine types of cultivation to be abandoned, namely, the large, medium, and small nine types, the eighty-one liberation fruits obtained after abandoning them, and the paths of liberation that obtain them. Among them, the nature of the Shramana is the uninterrupted path included in the uncontaminated, because it becomes the ultimate Shramana by abandoning afflictions, so it is called the nature of the Shramana. As it is said in the sutra: From sinful, unwholesome dharmas, up to vast old age and death, all have been pacified, therefore it is called Shramana. Abandonment is the fruit of its liberation, and the path of liberation is the fruit of the similar cause, so these are called the fruit of the nature of the Shramana. As it is said in the Abhidharmakosha: The nature of the Shramana is the immaculate path, the fruit is conditioned and unconditioned, including the path of liberation and cessation, etc., these total eighty-nine. These fruits, according to the difference in state, the sutra says there are four fruits of the nature of the Shramana, namely, stream-enterer, etc. Second, if there are eighty-nine fruits of the nature of the Shramana, why are they established as four fruits? The Abhidharmakosha says: The establishment of the four fruits is because there are five causes. The fruit is abandoning the previous path, obtaining other paths, obtaining cessation, obtaining eight kinds of wisdom, and obtaining sixteen aspects. Therefore, in any state where the five causes exist, it is established as a fruit. Abiding like this" } ] ============================================================

It is said that the path of anticipation is taken, the path of fruition is attained, the attainment of all abandonments is attained, the eight dharmas and subsequent knowledge are attained simultaneously, and the sixteen aspects such as impermanence are attained. Furthermore, it should be explained as follows: There are three things to be abandoned: the three bonds that hinder entry into liberation, the five lower fetters that hinder transcendence of the lower realms and lower realms, and the five higher fetters that hinder transcendence of the higher realms. These are, in order, the coarse, subtle, and extremely subtle things to be abandoned by those who desire liberation, and abandoning them are also the small, medium, and large fruits to be sought in reality. Among them, the first abandonment is established as the fruit of stream-entry, as the sutra says: This instruction is for those who have entered the stream by abandoning the three bonds. Weakening the five lower fetters and completely abandoning them are established as the fruits of once-returner and non-returner respectively, as the sutra says: What is the fruit of once-returner? It is the one who has abandoned the bonds and weakened desire, hatred, and ignorance. What is the fruit of non-returner? It is the one who has abandoned the five fetters corresponding to the lower division. Why are two fruits established when abandoning the abandonment of the desire realm? Because the afflictions of the abandonment of the desire realm are very coarse and are gradually abandoned. When most of the afflictions of the desire realm are exhausted, it is established as the fruit of once-returner, and when completely exhausted, it is established as the fruit of non-returner, this is to show the two differences of the desire realm and to show the quick transcendence from it. The third abandonment is established as the fruit of Arhat, as the sutra says: Abandoning the five fetters corresponding to the upper division is the fruit of Arhat. In short, the abandonments are definitely divided into two types: those to be abandoned by seeing and those to be abandoned by cultivation. In terms of abandoning what is to be abandoned by seeing, it is established as the fruit of stream-entry. The abandonment by cultivation can also be summarized into two types: those included in the desire realm and those included in the upper realms. The abandonment by cultivation of the desire realm is further divided into coarse and subtle.
