If it is said that treatises that expound erroneous views are meaningless, then such treatises are meaningful, because they dispel confusion about the definitions of valid and invalid cognition, etc. Furthermore, if it is thought that only non-deceptive knowledge is the definition of valid cognition, that is not the case, because the very knowledge that newly clarifies the self-character of a previously unknown object is also the definition of valid cognition. Through the three, unknown, object, and clarification, it is successively cut off that conventional knowledge and the appearance of two moons, etc., are not valid cognition. If the definition of valid cognition is the clarification of an unknown object, then the consciousness that apprehends the general characteristic after the direct perception has cognized forms, etc., will necessarily become valid cognition, because it newly knows the previously unknown general characteristic. If this is the case, unknown object clarification, you, as the definition of valid cognition, do not have the fault of the general characteristic consciousness becoming valid cognition, because the proponent thinks that whatever self-character that one previously did not know and newly knows is valid cognition, and after thinking or considering this, he establishes you as the definition of valid cognition. If asked, why is only knowing the self-character the definition of valid cognition? Self-character, there is a reason why you are established as the definition of valid cognition only when you newly know what was previously unknown, because those with discernment who seek results, after examining your existence or non-existence, establish you there for the reason of being able to engage. Therefore, the Thus-gone Bhagavan, in the verses of praise in the Compendium of Topics, has reason to praise you as valid cognition, because you possess both non-deception and the clarification of unknown objects, which were previously mentioned. For higher rebirth and definite goodness, etc., he does not deceive beings, and in order to seek liberation, he clearly explains the four truths unknown to others without reversing them. Now, it is intended to explain the content of "having become valid cognition, in order to refute permanence." If asked, why is "having become" mentioned? It is meaningful that the verses of praise in the Compendium of Topics say "having become," because it is in order to prevent the Bhagavan from being a permanent, self-arisen valid cognition that did not arise from causes, but to show his perfect causes. Therefore, the Bhagavan should be born as valid cognition, because one must look at his special proof.

Because diligence has been thoroughly perfected. If it is said that the permanent Lord who pervades everything like space is also a valid means of knowledge, then, subject, you are not the permanent nature that exists, because you must be the valid means of knowledge that realizes the existence of your object. It pervades, because the object of knowledge is impermanent, so the knowledge of the object is also unstable. If it is said that the object of knowledge is impermanent, so the knowledge of the object is impermanent, but the Lord who has knowledge is permanent, so there is no fault. The knowledge of the Lord, subject, it is unreasonable to arise from the permanent Lord, because you arise in successive order. If it is said that the Lord is permanent, but depends on conditions to generate knowledge in sequence, so there is no fault. Lord, subject, it is impossible to generate knowledge in sequence depending on conditions, because no aspect of the conditions can benefit, because it is permanent. If it is said that the Lord is impermanent, and is established as a valid means of knowledge by its nature of not arising from a cause, then, it, subject, is not a valid means of knowledge existing by its nature of not arising from a cause, because there is no valid means of establishment there either. If it is said, what is the proof that your Thubpa Bhagavan is a valid means of knowledge? Its proof is said to be the valid means of knowledge that depends on the proof. Then we also have the proof that the Lord is a valid means of knowledge, the place and body and actions and faculties of the world, etc., subject, are made by the wisdom of an excellent wise person preceding them, because they dwell and enter, like pavilions, etc. Because they have differences in shape, like palaces, etc. Because they have the ability to accomplish meaning and benefit, like axes, etc. Is the excellent wise person also the Lord? The place and body of the world, etc., subject, you do not need to prove with true signs that it is made by the wisdom of the Buddha preceding it with mere general wisdom, because the Buddhist has already established that it arises from the object of self-cause mind and the continuum in various ways. If it is said that a permanent person with wisdom first
