Among the two, other schools and our own school, the first are those who assert annihilationism and those who assert permanence. The first is: Generally, the meaning of the word \"Tirthika\" is that they enter the edge (of the path) for the sake of liberation, hence they are called Tirthikas. But the Charvakas do not desire liberation, therefore the word Tirthika has no meaning. Among them, the tenet of the Lokayata (Charvaka) school was taught by the divine guru Purba. The Rishi World-Eye (Dran-srong Jig-ten-mig) composed hundreds of thousands of verses of treatises expounding the Lokayata. It is said that according to their view, beings do not come here from previous lives, nor do they go from here to future lives, therefore, the fruits of actions done in previous lives are not experienced in future lives. External and internal phenomena do not arise from causes such as karma or Ishvara, but are either established by their own nature from the beginning or arise suddenly. The reason they state is: Lentils are round, etc., this is the Lokayata scripture. Rishi World-Eye, because he wanted to commit incest with his own daughter, made his daughter hold a nihilistic view, therefore he said, \"How much,\" etc. How much is the scope of the senses, that is all there is to a person. This means that there are no other worlds such as heavens and hells. \"Blue-Green\" (Ngo-sang) is calling his own daughter. What is the use of saying much, this means that the Shramana Gautama's teachings of heavens, hells, and the fruits of karma, etc., are like the lies of a former Rishi named Jackal who deceived the world." , "english_translation": "If there is no previous life, then from where does the mind arise? The mind is the essence of the elements such as semen and blood. Therefore, the mind with the senses is a manifest sentient being, and the other four elements that exist externally are also non-manifest minds, because the mind exists in the nature of potential. Therefore, since the elements and the mind are not different, when the body with the senses is destroyed, the mind also ceases, therefore there is no bond of good and evil that connects previous and future lives, hence it is called Lokayata." }, { "original_tibetan": "གཉིས", "chinese_translation": "二", "english_translation": "Two" } ] ============================================================

Among the eight proponents of permanence, the first is the view of the Samkhya school. The terms Sāṃkhya, Enumerators, and Thirties are all names for the same thing. The founder of the Samkhya school, the great sage Kapila, said that the number of knowables, when all are added together, is twenty-four natures, plus the self and suchness, totaling twenty-five. He himself said, "If one knows these twenty-five suchnesses, then whether one abides with matted hair, shaven head, or a crown, in whatever form, liberation is without obstruction." Among these, the characteristics of the self, the lord of wisdom, are: it is unchanging in all circumstances, therefore it is permanent; it is without peer, therefore it is unique; it abides in the essence of experience, therefore it is conscious; it is neutral towards action, therefore it is not an actor; it enjoys objects, therefore it is an enjoyer. As it is said in the *Madhyamakāvatāra*: "The enjoyer is a permanent, real, non-actor self, with qualities, without action, contemplated by the Enumerators. Based on these slight differences, the views of the Tirthikas became distinct." The three, desire, hatred, and delusion; the three, pleasure, pain, and neutrality; the three, courage, passion, and darkness, are all different names. The state in which these three are unchanging and in equilibrium is called "chief," which is the cause of producing all things except wisdom, and is permanent, unique, independent, unconscious, therefore it is inanimate, and invisible to children, therefore it is unmanifest. It is not said that the self abides within the chief. When the self desires to enjoy objects, the chief emanates transformations such as forms, and when the self enjoys these transformations with attachment, it is called samsara. When some selves become weary of objects, they attain the divine eye by meditating in solitude, and when they know that nature, like a demoness, emanates the collection of transformations, nature gathers up the transformations in a manner of shame. Therefore, no transformation affects the self, and the self no longer enjoys objects, and when it abides freely, it is called having attained liberation. When the chief emanates transformations, it is called nature.
