Chapter Three. Chapter Three. Second, the content included in the cause, the truth of origination, includes good and non-good karma, causes and conditions, and the explanation of dependent origination. First, the first part is a summary explanation of the two: the non-attachment, non-hatred, and non-ignorance with characteristics mentioned in the first chapter, the karma of the three doors of body, speech, and mind produced by these three roots of goodness is good karma, because they are the factors that produce satisfactory ripening results. Non-attachment and so on are just examples, actually referring to all that is produced by the eleven good qualities such as faith mentioned earlier. In general, there are three types of good: self-nature good, associated good, and initiating good. The first is the eleven good qualities such as faith, like good medicine, because they are born with a pure essence. The second is the mental and psychological activities corresponding to these good qualities, like a drink mixed with medicine, because they produce good with the help of strength. The third is the actions of body and speech initiated by the first two good qualities, like the foam of a medicinal drink, because they produce good under the power of cause. The karma of the three doors of body, speech, and mind produced by the three afflictions of desire, hatred, and ignorance is non-good karma, because they are the factors that produce unpleasant ripening results. Non-good karma is also divided into three types as before: self-nature non-good refers to the afflictions and near afflictions that initiate evil deeds of body and speech. Associated non-good refers to the mental and psychological activities corresponding to these afflictions. Initiating non-good refers to the karma of body and speech such as killing. The second part is a detailed explanation, including the classification of karma paths and the explanation of the characteristics of these karma paths. First, the ten non-good karma paths are explained: Among them, killing refers to the situation where there is an intention to kill, the object to be killed is not mistaken, and then tools such as swords are used to kill, resulting in the death of the object being killed. For example, wanting to kill Devadatta but killing a sacrificial offering, then real killing has not occurred. If there is doubt whether it is Devadatta or a sacrificial offering, thinking to kill whoever it is, then real killing will also occur. Taking what is not given refers to consciously

To take possession of another's property by force or stealth without error. Wanting to go where one should not go, which is illicit sexual conduct, has four aspects: inappropriate places, such as mother, sister, relatives within seven generations, or a woman already possessed by another. Inappropriate paths, such as the mouth and excretory passages. Inappropriate locations, such as temples where images of deities reside, or in the presence of a large crowd. Inappropriate times, such as during pregnancy or fasting, or when afflicted with an illness that makes sexual activity inappropriate. Lying is when something exists in one state but one wants to show it in another, thus transforming the consciousness into another state, and making the other person clearly understand the meaning of the words. In this, whatever one wants to say must be accurate and without error. The basis of lying is the eye consciousness, ear consciousness, and mind consciousness, which are, in order, seeing, hearing, and knowing things, and saying "unseen" etc., which is not in accordance with the facts. Slander is for the purpose of separating others' friendship or lack of friendship, whether true or false, speaking words with a afflicted mind, and making the other person understand the meaning. Harsh speech is speaking unpleasant words to others with a afflicted mind, making the other person understand the meaning without error. All afflicted speech other than slander etc. is idle talk, such as holding heretical views and reciting their evil treatises, or evil monks engaging in flattery, or singing and dancing out of desire. Similarly, uttering sorrowful laments, or talking about worldly affairs etc. is also idle talk. Covetousness is being attached to others' wealth, wanting to take possession of it by force or stealth. Harmful intent is the anger of wanting to cause harm to other beings. Thinking that the result of good and evil is pleasure and pain, and that there is no transference from this life to the next, etc. is wrong view. Therefore, covetousness and the other three mental actions, and the mental activity that corresponds to them, are the path of action and not action, because they operate according to the laws of these actions, since they are neither bodily nor verbal actions, nor mind.
