Refuting the incidental Mind-Only view. Refuting the incidental Mind-Only view. Second, refuting the incidental Mind-Only view, which has two parts: establishing the view and refuting it. The first part is: Since the Madhyamikas consider the ālaya-vijñāna and so on to be provisional and declare that all dharmas are without inherent existence, the Mind-Only proponents cannot tolerate this view. In order to eliminate the system fabricated by their own conceptualization and to explain the meaning, they say: Without the apprehended, no apprehender is seen, The three realms are understood as mind-only, That bodhisattva abiding in wisdom, Realizes that very nature as mind-only. That bodhisattva abiding in the cultivation of the Perfection of Wisdom, namely the sixth-ground bodhisattva, will truly realize that the ultimate reality of all dharmas is the nature of mind-only. Why? Because this bodhisattva, with the reasoning that will be explained, does not see the apprehended of the mind, and therefore the apprehender dependent on it is also not seen. And by long habituation to the fact that these three existences are mind-only, devoid of external objects. When habituation becomes extreme, then one realizes in one's own self-awareness an inexpressible mind-only that is free from the apprehended and the apprehender. If it is only meaningless mind-only, then how does the mind that appears as objects such as form arise? Just as the wind stirs the great ocean, And waves arise from it, So from the seed of all, Called the ālaya-vijñāna, Arises the power of mind-only. Just as in the vast ocean, due to the wind's impetus, waves of various sizes arise according to the conditions, so too, from the seed of all defiled dharmas, namely the ālaya-vijñāna, because of the establishment of the mind that clings to the appearance of the apprehended and the apprehender from beginningless time, passing from one to another, thereby causing its own power to fully mature, thus only the mind that appears as the apprehended and the apprehender arises, while children conceptualize the apprehended and the apprehender, but in reality there is no apprehended that is different from the mind.
