If someone says, 'Because a person with intelligence exists temporarily, there is a self in liberation.' Then, your assertion that the self in liberation has intelligence is meaningless, because intelligence is the enjoyer of objects, and at the time of liberation, there are no objects at all. Thus, if a person wants to enjoy objects, they will generate all the collections of transformations that are to be enjoyed by nature. Then, the person will know and enjoy the things that are clung to by the mind. When the person knows that the person and the qualities are different, so that the person is freed from craving for objects and becomes liberated, what merit is there in asserting that the person enjoys objects? Because the collections of transformations to be enjoyed, which are the nature of cause and effect, have all become completely pacified. If someone says, 'Then it depends on the person not having intelligence at that time.' Then, asserting that a person without intelligence exists is also not clearly evident, because like fire and heat, the person and intelligence are inseparable. If someone says, 'Even though intelligence is not real in the state of liberation, there is a self because its potential exists.' If there is a single self, the basis of liberation, then it is possible that the seed of intelligence that depends on it also exists. At that time, since there is no intelligence, there is no self that is inseparable from it, so the potential of intelligence that depends on it is also impossible. If someone says, 'If there is no self in liberation, then because there is no liberation, this existence will not be destroyed, and many undesirable consequences will occur.' If there is an entry into liberation and its potential at the time of intelligence, then one might doubt whether the entry into existence that depends on it exists or not. If there is no intelligence or its potential, the basis of liberation, then the thought of whether or not to enter into existence that depends on it is not reasonable. For example, just as if a seed is destroyed, the continuum of sprouts and so on that depend on it will not occur, in all ways, even just the continuum of the self will not occur, so liberation is possible. Because it is so, all the contaminated aggregates of appropriation are extinguished in a way that they do not arise, so for those who have attained nirvana, liberation from suffering, for the nirvana of

At the time of liberation, there is no liberated self that can be called "the complete cessation of self is good." Because at that time, the five aggregates completely cease, therefore the self that is imputed in dependence on the five aggregates does not exist. Moreover, it is certain through reason that there is no permanent self that does not depend on the five aggregates, but arises from elsewhere, that is, without a cause. Therefore, if there is a permanent self at the time of liberation, then there will be no difference from before, and therefore samsara will not cease. If there is a difference, then because it is something that changes, it will become impermanent. The second part includes two parts: refuting arguments and explaining answers. The first part is: If someone says that at the time of liberation, there is neither a liberated self nor a nirvana called ultimate truth, but only the complete cessation of suffering because conditioned phenomena no longer arise. Then, what is the point of pursuing such an ultimate truth? Therefore, because people think that the self is good, they would rather accept the conventional truth. The ultimate truth should not be accepted in any way, because in the conventional truth, there are still things that are imputed in dependence on pots and cloths, etc. But in the ultimate truth, there is neither samsara nor nirvana. Therefore, just as one would not gouge out one's eyes for fear of getting an eye disease, because of disgust with the suffering of samsara, it is enough to abandon suffering alone, not that nothing exists. This is what is said. From the Four Hundred Verses on the Yogic Practice, the explanation of the meditation on refuting permanent entities is the ninth chapter commentary.
