Explanation of Chapter Four. Explanation of Chapter Four. Fourth, showing the means of abandoning self-grasping, there are two: a general presentation, and establishing it through refutation and response. First, the antidote to uprooting the seed of self-grasping will be shown below by showing the absence of inherent nature of phenomena, and here, the antidote to suppressing manifestation is shown. Because pride in self and what belongs to self is particularly present in kings, therefore, in order to prevent those two, it is mostly shown starting from the king. Among them, the self that arises from completely discriminating the difference of praising oneself as "I am the ruler," that is, self-grasping; and the pride that arises from considering the meaning of possessing something as having power, such as "these places are mine," who would arise in this world of samsara for a noble one who thinks properly? It will definitely not arise. Because for some people, some places are not commonly owned, and can be possessed in all lifetimes, it is reasonable to be proud, saying, "I am the ruler of this place." But this is impossible for sentient beings in samsara, because for all embodied beings, all objects such as form are commonly produced by karma, which is the same, that is, common. Second, there are two: preventing pride due to power, and preventing pride due to lineage. First, there are two: the actual and the incidental prevention of committing sins. First, if the king should be proud because he has power over all the affairs of the world, then when the people of the first kalpa divided the fields separately and took possession of them after the uncultivated rice ripened, they stole from each other. At that time, many people contributed one-sixth of their grain and appointed a strong person as a protector. Because the work of protecting made the people happy, he was called a king. From then on, the kings nurtured the people with one-sixth of the reward, so what is there for you, king, to be proud of? Because he is a common servant of the people who contribute one-sixth of the grain as a reward. Saying that he has power over all affairs, he should not be proud.

It is reasonable to be so. Because from where, what to do, and where to do it, etc., the changes are controlled, that is, because the world all depends on being appointed as the one with power. For example, just as when a monarch entrusts power to some servants, the servants should not be arrogant towards the monarch because "this matter depends on me." If it is said that the king is the monarch and the giver of food and wealth to others, so he should be arrogant, then, just as when the king's support group obtains the salary, etc., that they are bound to obtain through serving, they think of the monarch as the giver and feel humble themselves without being complacent. When the monarch gives the rewards that are bound to be given to the support group, although he thinks of himself as "I am the giver of wealth," however, just as the people should not be arrogant when they obtain the benefits that they are bound to obtain, the king should not be arrogant because he gives the wealth that must be given. If it is said that the kings should be arrogant because the desired objects exist at will, then, just as being attached to women and wine, etc., being excessively attached to objects is said by other tamers of the senses to be the source of suffering, because the senses are not tamed. In this way, the king is actually the cause of many declines and the source of suffering, but in your view, it is mistakenly thought to be an eminent position. Furthermore, if those who are attached to the world rely on the world for happiness, then what happiness will you, the king who experiences uninterrupted suffering by protecting others and lives on the fruits of that karma, generate? No happiness will be generated. If it is said that the king is the protector of the world, because without the king, the people will not follow the law and the people will be destroyed. Therefore, this should be arrogant, then, it is not reasonable to be arrogant based on this alone. If, like this, I become arrogant because I am the protector of the world, then the land itself will also appear as the object protected by the world, because a king who is not protected by the world cannot rule the world. Therefore, if one
