A body constantly nourished by pleasure, being extremely delicate, even a small amount of suffering, like a flame touching a new leaf, will become extremely fragile, and therefore is destined to become a vessel of great suffering. Therefore, cherishing the body and cherishing an enemy appear to be the same, because both accumulate the root of suffering. Furthermore, even if the body is nourished for a long time by pleasure that is the cause of happiness, it will not become the nature of happiness, because it has the nature of suffering. Nature cannot be overcome by other conditions, just as a crow raises a cuckoo's chick, but it will not become a crow. If someone thinks that beings such as kings who are in contact with a great foundation only have pleasant feelings from birth to death, so the body cannot be the nature of suffering, then, for the most excellent beings who have a great foundation such as retinues and enjoyments, such as kings, they have mental suffering such as jealousy that cannot tolerate the prosperity of others, and fear that their power will be harmed by others. And for ordinary beings of low caste who are poor in food and clothing, they have suffering born from the body such as hunger and thirst. Therefore, the two sufferings of body and mind destroy this world day by day, so there is nothing that has the nature of happiness. If someone thinks that although there are two sufferings, they are not perceived because they are overwhelmed by great happiness, then happiness is not great, because it depends on the conceptualization that is dominated by suffering. For example, when this person thinks, "I am a giver, I am rich," he feels mental happiness. However, even if he has obtained enjoyment, when he fears being harmed by others, he will have mental unhappiness, which will cause the previous mental happiness to disappear. Therefore, both the arising and ceasing of happiness depend on conceptualization, so it is dominated by conceptualization. But suffering is not like that, because there is no conceptualization that can stop the power of suffering.

Also, there is not. Moreover, the happiness of enjoying pleasant objects, and the two kinds of thoughts that arise with and are in accordance with happiness, are also dominated by suffering because they are born and destroyed by it. Thus, even if one enjoys pleasant sense objects, if one is overwhelmed by some kind of suffering, then all that happiness ceases together with thoughts, and only suffering is experienced. Therefore, among all things, there is no happiness more powerful than suffering. Secondly, if it is said that although happiness is difficult to obtain, it does not cause harm, so it is the nature of the body; and although suffering is abundant, it causes harm, so it is not the nature. Then, just as children, youths, adults, and the elderly, etc., as time passes and increases, so too do the sufferings of aging and sickness, etc., increase more and more, while the happiness of youth, etc., diminishes more and more. Therefore, suffering is the nature of the body, while happiness appears to be something other than the nature of this body. If it is said that even though the body is the nature of suffering, one should not be weary of the body because there are causes of happiness that can compensate for it. In this regard, the causes of suffering for the body are numerous, such as diseases caused by internal imbalances, and external causes such as unpleasant tactile sensations like cold. So many different causes of suffering appear, while the causes of happiness, whether internal or external, do not appear. Because the causes of happiness are few and the causes of suffering are many, it is not reasonable to say that one should not be weary of suffering because there are causes of happiness. If it is said that if happiness were not the nature, it would not increase, but because there is increasing from above, happiness exists. Because it is seen that the cause of happiness, such as eating and drinking, eventually leads to suffering, just as it is seen that suffering arises from happiness that is increasing from above. But for suffering that is increasing from above, there is no opposite happiness that arises, because when suffering increases manifestly, the body and mind become very afflicted. Therefore, since there is no opposite to increase, suffering
