Due to the power of afflictions, beings transmigrate in samsara, taking on various forms of life, such as sons and daughters. When they go elsewhere, they wander around as if scattering the suffering caused by separation from relatives such as parents. If worldly people were without suffering and desired to be without suffering, then scattering suffering would be reasonable. However, what is the use of scattering forms of suffering upon beings who do not want suffering and are by nature suffering? There is no need whatsoever. Therefore, which wise person would grieve over the separation from sons and others who bring about suffering? Fifth, refuting attachment to being together: If it is said that one dislikes separation because it is the cause of suffering, but likes being together because it is the cause of happiness, is this correct? What is it that makes you like being together, which arises together with suffering? How can you not also like separation? You should like it. Because wherever there is being together, there is inevitably separation, do not being together and separation appear together? This is because they are interdependent. For example, like the auspicious woman and the black woman. Therefore, even if being together is the cause of happiness, it ultimately leads to suffering, so one should manifest liberation from both. If it is said that although one knows that separation is certain, one disregards it because the initial companionship is long, is this correct? In samsara, there is no beginning to the past for beings with ignorance, and there is no end to the future. Both of these are completely separated by separation. Being together with loved ones is only a momentary instant, because all conditioned phenomena are momentary and disintegrating. Therefore, what reason do you have to see only the short-lived being together and be attached to it, but not see the long separation encompassed by the past and future, and not be weary of it? Therefore, being happy with a momentary being together, one should be extremely weary of the separation encompassed by beginninglessness and endlessness. Sixth, refuting attachment to seasons: If it is said that separation is long, but even so, there are spring flowers blooming and autumn moons shining

If you say that because you are led by your mind with the perfection of seasons such as lavender, you do not consider it and will not become weary, then those seasons such as winter and spring, which are composed of moments, instants, and brief moments, will certainly become like enemies. Because those times gradually increase, they will exhaust your moments of living. Therefore, you should not be attached to those times that have become enemies that take away life in any way. The more time passes, the more you should strive to be mindful through remembering death. Secondly, the benefit is: Thus, remembering death and becoming disgusted and weary of contaminated things such as suffering and separation, one will certainly abandon all this, renounce from home to homelessness, and live in the forest. If it is said that this reasoning is true, but it is difficult to separate from relatives and friends, so it cannot be done. Foolish one, if you do not necessarily leave home because of the fear of separating from relatives and friends, then the Lord of Death will cause you to separate from all relatives and friends even if you do not want to. Therefore, which wise and intelligent person would not voluntarily do what must be done without fail, but would be forced to do it by others? Therefore, without being urged by the punishment of the Lord of Death, one should voluntarily abandon relatives and friends and go to the forest. If it is said that limbs and so on must be abandoned without fail, even so, one should give birth to children, complete youth, take a wife, and complete the burden of the household before leaving. If you think that after doing this little bit of unfinished work of giving birth to children, you will clearly and certainly go to the forest, then whatever you do, whether it is giving birth to children or taking a wife, if you have to abandon them in the end, what is the benefit of doing them again? Therefore, this is not something to be done. For example, it is like washing and then throwing away. If it is said that going to the forest is the main thing, but because of attachment to self and what belongs to self, one will be afraid of it, then for those who are wise, following the teachings and reasoning as mentioned above, and having the certainty that I will die, such a person, because of abandoning busyness, even attachment to life will be completely

For the sake of the Dharma, what fear is there of the Lord of Death? There is no fear at all. How could going to the forest or being separated from children and so on become fearful? Therefore, one should diligently practice contemplating death.
