"Do not crave for heavens." It is said that even in heavens, that is, the desire realm gods, there is great happiness in enjoying the perfect objects of desire, but the suffering at the time of their death and falling is greater than that happiness. As it is said: "Alas, various chariots and gardens, alas, ponds flowing gently, alas, the miserable sentient being, the god, utters lamentations and falls to the ground." Thus it is said. Having thought thus, the virtuous and realized ones do not crave even for the happiness of heavens, because that happiness will also be exhausted, so it is meaningless. If the gods are born miraculously and do not have the suffering of being pierced, then how can they have suffering at the time of death? Although there is no physical suffering, when they are seized by the signs of death, the mental suffering is very great, to show this reason. The color of the body becomes ugly, they do not like to sit on their cushions, the flower garlands wither, the clothes become stained, and dust appears on the body that was not there before. These are called the five signs of death in the heavens. These five signs appear to the gods residing in the heavens. It is like the signs that foretell the death of people on earth. Thus it is said, when the gods are about to die, the beautiful color of their bodies fades and becomes ugly, they do not like to sit on their seats, the flower garlands of ornaments become old, the clothes become stained, and dust appears on their bodies that was not there before. These five phenomena, whichever one sees, will cause the gods to feel unhappy, this is a sign or omen that foretells the death and fall of the gods of the heavens. For example, it is like the signs that foretell the death of people on earth, such as the collapse of the nose bridge and the appearance of the smell of corpses. Not only will they experience the suffering of death and falling, but also to show that they will feel the suffering of bad destinies after death. After passing away from the world of gods, if there is no remainder of virtue, then one will involuntarily be reborn in any of the places of animals, hungry ghosts, and hells. Thus it is said, from the

For those who pass away from this world, if there is no remaining merit to be reborn in the heavens, then they have no power to remain in the heavens. Instead, they will fall into any of the realms of animals, pretas, or hells, and experience suffering. The fifth is the suffering of the Asuras: Even among the Asuras, because of their nature, they are jealous of the glory of the gods, and therefore have great mental suffering. Although they possess intelligence, they do not see the truth because they are obscured by the obscurations of samsara. It is said that the Asuras, because of their great pride, naturally arising from pride, hate the glory of the gods, and therefore have great mental suffering caused by intolerance, because jealousy causes the mind to be greatly tormented. Furthermore, when they wage war with the gods, they experience suffering such as having their bodies cut and torn apart. Although they possess the intelligence to discern between virtue and non-virtue, they do not see the truth because they have the obscurations of samsara, that is, the obscurations of karmic ripening. In the commentary, it is said that the Asuras are propelled by non-virtue and perfected by virtue. However, because they are beings of the god realm, the noble Asanga stated that they are propelled by the virtue that propels them. The third is the summary of the meaning: Having explained the faults of samsara in this way, in order to cultivate the perception of being displeased with it, (the text says:) Because samsara is like that, therefore, birth among gods and humans, as well as in hells, pretas, and animals, is not good. Birth is a vessel of many harms, please know. Because samsara possesses such faults as described above, birth among gods, humans, and so on is not good. Birth is a vessel or basis for many harms, such as the harm of close relatives, please know.
