Therefore, it is in order to thoroughly pacify the continuity of existence. If, by the continuation of arising and ceasing of cause and effect, one avoids the view of permanence and annihilation, even so, at the time of Nirvana, when that continuity will not occur, it will necessarily become a view of annihilation, because the continuity of existence of arising and ceasing of cause and effect is thoroughly pacified. The Bhagavan has said to abandon all views of annihilation. Secondly, arising and ceasing are not reasonable in samsara: Furthermore, the fruit is the continuity of arising and ceasing of the cause, because that is existence. Saying this is also unreasonable. How is it? Here, the final existence is characterized by reversion, and the first existence is characterized by the joining of the goer. In this regard, the final existence that is ceasing is abiding as the cause itself, and the first existence, which has the characteristic of birth, is abiding as the entity of the fruit. Those two existences are named samsara. Here, this should be examined: From what does the continuity of cause and effect become samsara? What is it that the first existence, having the characteristic of joining, abides as the nature of the fruit? Is it that the final existence, having the characteristic of reversion, has ceased, or has not ceased, or is it born while ceasing? In any case, it is not reasonable. If the final existence has ceased, then the first existence will not arise. If the final existence has not ceased, then the first existence will not arise. If one thinks that the final existence has ceased, then the first existence is born, that is also unreasonable, because it would lead to the fault that a sprout would arise even from a causeless and rotten seed. When the final existence has not ceased, it is also unreasonable for the first existence to be born, because if it were so, it would lead to causelessness, and one sentient being having two natures, and the arising of a sentient being that did not exist before, and the former being permanent, and a sprout arising even from an unrotted seed, because those are unreasonable. Now, how is it shown that the first existence is unreasonable when the final existence is ceasing? If the final existence is ceasing, then if the first existence is to be born, the one that is ceasing is one, and the one that is being born is also another. If from the existence that is currently ceasing, the first existence is being born

If it arises, since both arising and ceasing are present, then ceasing becomes one existence, and arising also becomes another existence. If two existences occur simultaneously, then it is unreasonable for one existence to have two existences at the same time. Therefore, if ceasing and arising together are also not reasonable, then in which skandha will death occur? Will birth also occur in that? When the last existence ceases, the first existence does not arise, and when the last does not cease, the first existence also does not arise. When ceasing and arising together are also not reasonable to occur, then now, in which skandha, residing, will death occur? Will birth occur in that? That is to say, dying is born, which is extremely contradictory. Thus, even in the three times, the continuum of existence is not reasonable. What does not exist in the three times, how is that a continuum of existence? Because when the last existence ceases, and does not cease, and is ceasing, the first existence does not exist, therefore, in this way, when the continuum of existence is not reasonable to arise even in the three times, what does not exist in the three times, how is that a continuum of existence? Therefore, in all ways, the continuum of existence does not exist. Therefore, the continuum of the arising and ceasing of the fruit and the cause, because that is existence. What is said is said unreasonably. Therefore, if one asserts that things exist, then one will fall into the fault of viewing permanence and annihilation. Therefore, it is established that all phenomena are unborn. The Bhagavan also said: The three realms are like dreams, without essence. They quickly perish and are impermanent, like illusions. There is no coming and no going from here. The aggregates are always empty and without characteristics. This is the commentary on the twenty-first chapter, Examination of Arising and Ceasing, from the Root Wisdom of the Middle Way. Explanation of the Twenty-first Chapter.
