Therefore. If fire depends on wood, then it becomes establishing what is already established. If it is said that fire arises depending on previously established wood, then it becomes establishing what is already established, because only things that exist and have the nature of being established are worthy of dependence, just as one does not depend on some non-existent house of Devadatta. Therefore, it must be admitted that fire exists. If so, then depending on firewood is meaningless, because it is already established. Furthermore, for the wood to be burned, it would also become without fire. If one thinks that it becomes fire by depending on wood, then the wood must be established before the fire, because it is not permissible to depend on what is not established. Therefore, if the wood to be burned does not depend on fire, that is also unreasonable. If only at the same time, wood is established depending on fire, and fire is established depending on wood, therefore, without admitting that either one is established earlier, what is it that becomes fire and wood by depending on each other? What is the first to be established? If you say that there is no fault, then, if things are established by depending on each other, and depending on it itself, the object of dependence is also established, then tell me, depending on what does what become established? If the thing called fire is established depending on the thing called wood, and fire depends on the thing of wood, that is, the object that fire depends on, then now tell me, depending on what does what become established? Similarly, if the thing of wood is established depending on the thing of fire, and wood depends on the object of wood, then now it must be said, depending on what does what become established? If fire is established depending on wood, without fire there is no wood, therefore fire will not be established either. Or, if wood is established depending on fire, fire will not be established without wood being established, therefore wood will not be established either. Therefore, fire and wood are not established by depending on each other, like this: things are established by depending on each other, if it is not established, how to depend? If it is already established and depends, then dependence is meaningless. If fire is established depending on wood, then is it an established fire or an unestablished fire that depends on wood?

Depending on... If the entity of fire is established by depending on firewood, then if it is not established, how can it depend on firewood, like a donkey's horn? If it is said that the fire is already established and depends, then what is already established is not to be established again, so dependence is meaningless, so it should not depend on firewood. Similarly, firewood, whether established or not, should not depend on fire. Therefore, there is no fire that depends on firewood, and there is no fire that does not depend on firewood. Because fire, whether established or not, should not depend on firewood, and if it does not depend on firewood, then fire becomes without cause. Similarly, there is no firewood that depends on fire, because whether established or not, it should not depend. (The root of "There is no firewood that does not depend on fire" is missing.) There is also no firewood that does not depend on fire, because that would become without cause. Third, refuting establishment through direct perception: Here it is said: What is the use of this fine analysis? We see with our own eyes that fire is burning firewood, so we say that fire and firewood exist. If it is said that fire is burning firewood, this is just a saying, not true. Thus, if there is fire in the firewood, it will burn the firewood, but in reality there is not. Fire does not come from elsewhere, and there is no fire in the firewood. First, fire does not come from other than firewood, because it is not seen; because there is no cause, there is no coming of fire separated from firewood; there is no need to come with firewood; and there, crossing and examining are the same, so it will fall into a state of no end. Similarly, there is no fire in the firewood, because it is not seen; if it is said to exist in an inconspicuous way, this is also without proof, so it is just talk. Furthermore, similarly, the remains of the firewood are shown by measuring what is burned and what is not burned. Refuting the remains of the firewood by saying that fire is burning firewood should be understood as previously refuting the measurement of what is burned and what is not burned. First, what is burned does not burn, and what is not burned does not burn. Apart from what is burned and what is not burned, it is impossible to know what is burning.

It should be understood that chanting and so on should be translated. Secondly, the conclusion of negation is: Wood itself is not fire, nor is there fire other than wood. Fire is not connected with wood, there is no wood on fire, and no fire on wood. Wood itself is not fire, if firewood is fire, then the agent and action will become one. This explains that the unity of fire and firewood is negated. Nor is there fire other than wood, if fire is other than wood, then fire will occur without wood. This explains that otherness is negated. Fire is not connected with wood, because self and other are negated, so any connection of difference and non-difference is not possible. Fire does not depend on wood, and wood does not depend on fire, if it is thought that there is dependence and dependence on something that has become other, like a spindle and sandalwood, then fire and firewood will not be established because there is no otherness. Just as fire does not exist when examined in five ways, similarly, fire and wood, with the self and, all the order of taking, together with pots, felt, etc., must be fully explained. The refutation of the self-established fire and wood, the previously shown ones, with the taker self and the taker five aggregates, the order of negation, oneness and otherness and connection, mutual dependence and the five aspects of negation, and the reasons suitable for showing these, including the negation of the two schools of self and other, must all be known to be explained in detail. Therefore, it should not be thought that the taker is the self, because it would fall into the fault of the agent and action becoming one. The taker and the taker are also not other, because it would fall into the fault of the self and the aggregates being regarded as different. Because oneness and otherness are negated, the self is also not connected with the aggregates. Because there is no otherness, it is not established that I depend on the aggregates and the aggregates depend on me. In this way, the self does not exist in five ways, so like action and agent, the self and the taker are established by mutual dependence. The order of negating the self and the taker is not only these two, then what is it? It should be known that it is explained in detail together with all things such as bottles and felt.
