A Garland of Jewels, a Letter to the Holders of the Doctrine, Based on the Study of the Wheel of Time. A Garland of Jewels, a Letter to the Holders of the Doctrine, Based on the Study of the Wheel of Time. This is the treatise called A Garland of Jewels, a Letter to the Holders of the Doctrine, Based on the Study of the Wheel of Time. I prostrate to all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the ten directions! Whoever has completely comprehended in their mind all that is to be known, and who also compassionately guides others, to that Buddha we have faith. The supreme light that dispels the darkness of ignorance, the sacred Dharma that is the essence of scripture and realization, and the noble Sangha who possess the eye of wisdom that sees all that exists, to them I also pay homage. This letter is not sent to those who do not hold the Buddha's teachings dear, who trade the precious Dharma for profit, who are slaves to desire, followers of craving, and who boast of being learned but are merely nominal. To whom, then, is it sent? It is sent to the ears of those holders of the doctrine who see the teachings of the Buddha as the aim of beings, who always strive to explain the scriptures, and whose bodies of wisdom are nourished by the nectar of scripture and reason. The teachings of the Buddha, the wish-fulfilling jewel that is the source of benefit and happiness, are stained by the mud of slander and impurity. May we always strive to cleanse them with the pure stream of the Ganges of scripture and reason. Although it is said in other sacred lands, the Buddha, for those who like the meaning of the two concise verses, Arya Deva explained in the Compendium of Practice, and for those who are interested in the vast Dharma. The wheel of Dharma of eighty-four thousand teachings was first turned by a body free from desire. For those who particularly like the profound Dharma, he also manifested as a Chakravartin king. For the sake of taming beings with attachment, he also turned the wheel of Dharma of various tantras in Oddiyana and other places. The Buddha, in Rajagriha in Nonok (Tibetan place name), Kashyapa, Ananda, and Upali gathered the three pitakas of the Hinayana without any additions or omissions, as it is recorded in the Vinaya. Then, one hundred and ten years later, in the great city of Vaishali, the noble ones such as Kirti,

It is said that seven hundred Arhats conducted the Second Council, which is clearly recorded in the "Minor Matters." Thereafter, gradually, the works of demons arose, and the meaning of the first half of this verse is explained in "Light of Reasoning." The meaning of the latter half is known to the wise: the Buddha's teachings split into eighteen schools. It is said that the Sutra Pitaka, following the dream prophecy of King Krikri, conducted the Third Council. The numerous vast Mahayana Sutras were well compiled by bodhisattvas such as Maitreya, Avalokiteshvara, and Manjushri, which is clearly recorded in the authoritative scholar's treatise "Light of Reasoning." The Solar Eclipse Child, the one wearing dog skin, etc., the Buddha said in the Vinaya that they are the holders of the Hearer Vehicle teachings. For the Mahayana teachings, Nagarjuna, the Dragon King, and others went to the Naga realm to teach as the successor of the Victorious One. After the Second Council, the distinction of the four commentary schools of the scriptures arose. The seven Abhidharma treatises, the "Ocean of Specific Explanations," etc., the treatises of the Sarvastivadins flourished sporadically. The Sarvastivadins believe that the seven Abhidharma treatises were compiled by Arhats such as Maudgalyayanaputra when the Buddha was alive. However, the Sutra school and Vasubandhu and others believe that after the Second Council, they were compiled by ordinary people. In the commentary on the Abhidharmakosha, it says: "The Teacher, the eye of the world, has closed, and most of the witnesses have passed away. Those who have not seen the truth and act as they please, the evil speculators, have disturbed this teaching." Therefore, the treatises, the seven Abhidharma treatises, etc., without seeing their meaning and trusting them, analyze the meaning of the Sutras with reason, and are called Sutra masters in order to establish the meanings. Four hundred years after the Buddha's passing, in the country of Videha, a young man named Nagarjuna became a monk, and in order to propagate the Dharma, he went to the gathering place of the Sutras. It is recorded in the "Great Cloud Sutra," the "Great Drum Sutra," the "Manjushri Root Tantra," etc. The Naga realm and other places are recorded in "Light of Reasoning." From other worlds, he took the profound and vast Sutras, destroyed the darkness of eternalism and nihilism, and lit the lamp of the Middle Way, free from extremes. Thereafter, the Buddha prophesied in the "Manjushri Root Tantra" that Asanga will
