From the very beginning, it is pure. Through the accomplishment of skillful means and wisdom, the self-nature is pure, without any defilement.' Thus it is said. Therefore, there is nothing to be removed or retained, the true nature of all dharmas is unerring, so it is Suchness. Again, it is said: 'Abandoning retention and removal, all dharmas are called Suchness.' Just as all dharmas arise from space, and all dharmas belong to space, so all dharmas arise perfectly from Suchness, and are pacified in Suchness, so one sees space joining with space. Thus it is said. Similarly, in the Guhyasamaja it is said: 'In the unborn, all dharmas have no substance, nor is there any practice. Like joining in space, these things are widely known.' Thus it is said. The meditation that leads one to the correct state: Second, imprisoning the mind in an iron cage, letting thoughts of discrimination run wild, placing the six consciousnesses upon it, and mixing the previous and subsequent consciousnesses into one. Among these, first, first supplicating the Lama, in the middle placing the mind without support, and finally removing obstacles with the three nails. Among these, the first: To transcend samsara, one must realize one's own mind. To realize one's own mind, it is not enough to rely solely on profound instructions, one must receive the blessings of the holy Lama. To receive the blessings, one must offer one's body, possessions, and everything else without reservation, generate the perception of the Buddha, and supplicate with unwavering faith and reverence. By listening to his teachings and carefully observing all that he does, wisdom will arise in one's own mind. When one sees the Lama as the Buddha and generates genuine devotion, all qualities will ripen at the same time, like the fruits of autumn. Second: Because the root resides at home, one must strive to grasp the consciousness. Fully understanding is the basis of action and liberation, so it is called Nirvana. Because not fully understanding generates great suffering, it is called Samsara. Therefore, Samsara and Nirvana both depend on this, so it is the root. As long as the minds of sentient beings are wrapped in the thick darkness of ignorance, there will be immeasurable suffering. When that is peeled away, there will be vast and incomparable bliss. Therefore, strive diligently, and when it is exhausted, one will abide in that very nature, qualities will increase, and thus light will appear.' Thus taught the master Padmasambhava. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is the Vajra of the Lotus family (Padma Vajra). Because there is nothing other than one's own mind, it is said to be 'dwelling at home'. The pinnacle Doha says: 'The most precious dwells within oneself. Apart from the mind, there is no external object. It has not been said that there is anything else. The mind itself is completely luminous. Therefore, if one truly investigates, there is no other dharma (chos) apart from the mind.' The Guhyasiddhi says: 'Abiding in one's own body, strive to recognize it.' Therefore, regarding all dharmas (chos), asserting whether they exist or not, and proving it by following and reversing the signs, merely uttering that all dharmas (chos) are empty without understanding the co-emergent (lhan cig skyes pa) nature, do not engage in meaningless effort, but rather imprison the consciousness within the enclosure of non-distraction. As it is said: 'Speculating with numerous conceptual thoughts (rnam rtog), desiring to achieve the goal of delusion, is like striking the sky with a fist, drinking water from a mirage.' The way to do this is: Relax the body and mind, sever all causes of mind and mental events, and without thinking about anything, by not applying the mind (yi la mi byed pa), leave the mind in its natural state without any modification. If the mind does not abide, then by seizing the mind through various methods, conceptual thoughts (rnam par rtog pa) will not be able to scatter to objects. And because they cannot scatter, the conceptual thoughts (rtog pa) of the six senses will cease. In this way, conceptual thoughts (rtog pa) dissolve into the dharmadhatu (dbyings su yal ba), and at that time, the mind, like clarified liquid, and the essence of the mind itself, free from all conceptions, becomes pure like the sky. Therefore, it is far beyond the expression of words, the thinking of thoughts, and the object of worldly meditation. This is called realizing the intention of the Buddha. Jetsun Maitripa said: 'As long as the mind is still moving, there is no end to the vehicle (theg pa). When the mind is completely still, there is no vehicle (theg pa) and no liberation.' Therefore, there is no other liberation apart from that. Because the state of liberation is certain, the path to it is only the unconditioned path of non-application of mind (yi la mi byed pa), because other paths cannot transcend the meditation of conceptual thought (rtog pa). As Nagarjuna (Klu sgrub zhabs) said: 'Because the dharmadhatu (chos kyi dbyings) is without distinction, the supreme vehicle (gtso bo'i theg pa) is also without distinction. The three vehicles (theg pa gsum) that you have spoken of are for the purpose of guiding sentient beings.' Therefore, the detailed explanation of the three vehicles (theg pa gsum) is for the purpose of understanding the meaning of having conceptual thought (rtog pa) and thinking of emptiness (stong pa) without conceptual thought (rtog pa). As for 'non-application of mind (yi la mi byed pa)', some... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
