The Teachings of the Omniscient Pema Karpo, Volume PK214: A Practical Guide to the Practice of Overcoming the Forces of Mara. A Practical Guide to the Practice of Overcoming the Forces of Mara. A Practical Guide to the Practice of Overcoming the Forces of Mara. Homage to the Guru and Yeshe Gonpo (Wisdom Protector), inseparable! You who subdue the banners of the black demons, And uphold the white banner of Dharma. Such a guardian of the teachings, famed as Raven, Nowhere else arises in the expanse of the teachings. Knowing this, I prostrate; this is the method of practice. Which is easiest to attain, which is most excellent? Like the enchanting lakes of the flourishing summer, Excelling and competing, joy arises. Thus, the 'Overcoming the Forces of Mara' of our Teacher is a great category of Dharma. I shall explain the practical guide to its practice: Abiding in the yoga of Chakrasamvara, first give a torma to the obstructors and expel them. Then, for the purification of the mandala and its supports, recite: ཨོཾ་ཤཱུ་ནྱ་ཏཱ་ཛྙཱ་ན་བཛྲ་སྭ་བྷཱ་ཝ་ཨཱཏྨ་ཀོ྅ཧཾ། (Tibetan, Devanagari, oṃ śūnyatā jñāna vajra svabhāva ātmako'haṃ, Om, emptiness, wisdom, vajra, nature, I am). Within emptiness: ཡཾ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, yam, wind) transforms into a black wind mandala in the shape of a crescent moon; རཾ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, ram, fire) transforms into a red fire mandala in the shape of a triangle; བཾ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, vam, water) transforms into a white water mandala in the shape of a circle; ལཾ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, lam, earth) transforms into a yellow earth mandala in the shape of a square; བྷྲཱུཾ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, bhrum, uncertain) transforms into the summit of Mount Meru, surrounded by mountains, seas, and continents; པཾ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, pam, lotus) transforms into a lotus with a thousand petals, and in its center, ཧ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, ha, ha) transforms into a four-faced multicolored vajra, and at its heart is a sun disc, upon which is ཧཱུྃ། (Tibetan, Devanagari, hūṃ, Hum). The rays of these three merge into one, radiating upwards, downwards, and outwards in all directions, gradually manifesting a vajra ground, a vajra tent, a vajra canopy, a vajra fence, and a vajra net, impenetrable by all obstructing maras. Outside of this, surrounded by various weapons such as swords, wheels, arrows, daggers, curved knives, khatvangas, single-pointed vajras, three-pronged vajras, twenty-five-pointed vajras, and flames of five colors. In the center is a white ཨོཾ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, oṃ, Om), the essence of Vairochana, which melts and forms the charnel ground mandala of the body, with walls made of white, yellow, red, green, and blue vajra jewels in a square shape. Outside the foundation is a rug of red lotus, the outer edge is adorned with gold thread, and in the darkness, a pearl net is supported by gold pillars. From the bird's wings hang white Bakula flowers. Adorned with umbrellas, banners, and victory banners in between, the central building is towering, topped with a wish-fulfilling jewel, with four doors and four horse-headed entrances.

On the lotus above, Covered by a golden wheel parasol, a pair of deer gaze. Externally, a vast immeasurable palace adorned with Samantabhadra (ཀུན་ཏུ་བཟང་པོ།, All-Good). Internally, an ocean of fat. Within it, half the size, is the mandala of speech, its walls made of red, white, and blue jewels. Internally, an ocean of blood. Within it, half the size, is the mandala of mind, constructed from three types of skulls—fresh, old, and dry—layered with meteoric iron slag and blood-fat mud, possessing all the characteristics of a charnel ground house. Internally, an ocean of brain matter. Within it is the Great Bliss Wheel, divided into the four continents and nine regions by a chain of swords, at its center. Surrounded by a curved knife and vajra, the outer layer is the wrathful A (ཨེ།, A). The inner layer is an eight-petaled lotus with a sun seat. In all the surrounding places are blazing blue Hūṃs (ཧཱུྃ།, Hūṃ). The central Hūṃ (ཧཱུྃ།, Hūṃ) is completely transformed into the glorious Lord of Wisdom, known as the Great Raven, Extremely wrathful towards demons and the forces of demons. He is in the form of a flesh-eating Rakshasa, thick and short, dark blue-black, with a hanging belly and coarse limbs. From his open mouth, with teeth as white and sharp as a snow mountain, gushes forth a flood that could destroy existence. His tongue flickers like lightning, and he roars with sounds like 'Haha' (ཧ་ཧ།, hā hā) and 'Hūṃ Hūṃ' (ཧཱུྃ་ཧཱུྃ།, hūṃ hūṃ), like a thousand dragons thundering at once, intoxicating all the lords of the three realms. From his frowning nose, a scattering wind blows, destroying all the unruly. His three eyes, blazing like a hundred thousand suns, torment all the wicked, and the flames of his beard, mustache, and eyebrows curl crookedly. To subdue the four Maras, his first two hands hold a heart-like Bael fruit and a skull cup filled with the blood of the four Maras, embracing his consort above and below his heart. His lower two hands brandish a flaming sword made from the tongue of a corpse and a trident adorned with streamers and a ḍamaru. Adorned with the six bone ornaments of subdued Rudra: a crown of skulls and jewels, earrings, a necklace, a girdle, bracelets, and anklets. The eight Nagas emit the sound 'pak' from his lower lip and an inexhaustible vapor of poison. Decorated with drops of blood, finger marks of fat, and a garland of fifty heads strung on intestines, dripping with blood. At his hairline is a manifested black Garuda, and on the crown of his head reside Śrī Sahaja (དཔལ་ལྡན་ལྷན་ཅིག་སྐྱེས་པ།, Glorious Coemergent) and a wish-fulfilling jewel. He wears the skin of an elephant and the earth deity. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
