If done so, 17-543 Through giving, virtuous deeds increase and benefits arise, which is a similar manifestation. If the body becomes ill, although the manifestation is similar, focusing on this, virtuous deeds increase and benefits arise, so the essence is manifestation. Fifth, the manifestation of similar giving is: in secret places, demons transform into the forms of gurus and yidams through illusion, making prophecies, etc., which is a similar manifestation. Gurus and yidams making prophecies is similar giving, but demons transforming into the forms of gurus and yidams through illusion, making prophecies, etc., is manifestation, so what is similar is similar giving, it is manifestation. Sixth, the habits that are similar in both are: someone giving food during the day, arguing with others during the day, etc., these appear in dreams at night, and these appearing in dreams at night are neither manifestation nor giving, but habits that are similar in both. Oral instructions end. Afterwards, subdue gods and demons and beings to be tamed through the reversal meditation of compassion. Second, to show the reversal meditation of compassion, there are three types of conduct: with elaboration, without elaboration, and extremely without elaboration. 17-544 First, to show the conduct with elaboration: If in a dream, the local deities and spirits of the place where secret practices are performed leave, or great weeping and wailing occur, then one should visualize oneself as the Great Compassionate One, with one face and two arms, the upper body pervading up to the Form Realm and beyond, the lower body pervading down to the Desire Realm and below, peaceful and smiling, capable of pacifying all the evil thoughts and cruelty of those deities and spirits just by seeing them. From the palms of his hands, a stream of nectar-like milk flows, and as those deities and spirits bathe in it, all the illnesses of their bodies, the suffering of their minds, and their evil thoughts and cruelty are pacified, and their bodies and minds are filled with perfect bliss. This is the end of the conduct with elaboration. Second, to show the conduct without elaboration: Because one is to cultivate loving-kindness and compassion, the mind of enlightenment, one should cultivate the genuine, unfeigned wish that all the deities and spirits of existence, headed by the local deities of the place where secret practices are performed, may have happiness and the causes of happiness. This is cultivating loving-kindness. May they be separated from suffering and the causes of suffering. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Meditating with the thought 'May they all have happiness' without artificiality is meditating on compassion. With the thought 'In order to attain the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, I shall practice the ultimate secret conduct' meditating without artificiality is meditating on the mind of enlightenment (Bodhicitta). Through this, one goes to without elaboration. The third is to show the extremely without elaboration, which is not focusing on both gods and demons and oneself. In short, not focusing on all dharmas, but remaining equally in the state of Dharmakaya. Rising from that, in the post-meditation period, one makes pure dedication and aspiration for the benefit of all sentient beings. This visualization sequence of Nāro's secret practice was composed by the Shakya monk Mipham Padma Karpo. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
