I say, the Lamas divide appearances into three aspects: the ordinary aspect, the appearing aspect, and the clinging aspect. The ordinary aspect is purified by contemplating the body of a person, etc., as a deity. The appearing aspect is purified by contemplating the wheel of dependent and depending as merely an illusion. The clinging aspect is the view of self. The way to reverse this is: In the commentary on the Guhyasamaja Mandala Ritual by Zhiwa, 'The Jewel Mine,' it says that all the teachings of the Buddhas are Sanskrit Romanization: atyantaviśuddhasvabhāva,Literal Chinese meaning: extremely pure nature), the mandala of the dependent and depending appears separately, and if one realizes that the appearance of that mind does not become an appearance. Therefore, what is established as contradictory is like appearance and darkness. What is established as contradictory is that the suffering of existence is reversed from the very learned mind. Also, aging and death, etc., which are transmitted from birth to birth, are the truth of suffering. What has become the cause of that, the view of self, etc., is the truth of origin. What has become the antidote to that, the wheel of the mandala, is the truth of the path. To make the arising of suffering completely non-existent, the characteristic of the continuum of one's own mind, which has become a completely transformed state, is the truth of cessation. The Great Yoga The fourth, Mahayoga (Great Yoga), is from 'The objects of the vessel and essence are called the palace,' up to 'Without the defilement of clinging to appearance, abide in equanimity.' This explains the subsequent yoga of destruction. The meaning of 'subsequent destruction' is also: At the end of destroying the objects of the vessel and essence, clarifying one's own body as a deity is also called destruction, and focusing on just a drop of destruction, one enters the clear light that is free from the activity of primordial consciousness. Then, when one cannot remain in the clear light and arises, from the white drop up to 'look from there,' this explains the completion stage yoga. As it says in the Compendium of Samayas: 'With the yoga of momentary appearance, the stage of completion is meditated upon. The three realms are the palace, the beings are the mandala. In the center of that, with momentary appearance, the lord of the mandala is the yogi.' By arising as the pure illusory body from the clear light, one goes to the meaning of union. To do such a thing again and again is done under the power of learning, so that the proliferation of appearance is pacified and ultimately becomes only non-dual clear light. On this point, Jetsun Milarepa does not consider merely collecting the vessel and essence to be a complete stage with characteristics. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If someone asks, 'Does this mean that the completion stage (Dzogrim) established here contradicts having its own characteristics?' The answer is no, it does not contradict. Because the intention of Jetsun is that the clear light (Odsel) of the stages of gathering, which are hypothetically constructed by conceptual thought, has become something created by conceptual thought. Here, if a clear light arises that is established on the stages of gathering where conventional truth is exhausted, then it becomes a completion stage with its own characteristics, and this is the intention (of Jetsun). Third, the subsequent practice is near gathering. If one does not practice the completion stage but only performs near gathering, then it is merely gathered into a bindu (Thigle), and then from that bindu, in an instant, arises the two-armed Heruka. After that, dedicate the merit to Bodhi, and then enter into the subsequent practice, making the conduct completely pure. Thus, the stages of practice of the thirteen-deity generation stage were recorded and instructed by the mantra holder White Lotus for the descendants of the great accomplished Thangtong Gyalpo, Ngawang Lobsang Kunga Drodul Gyatso, etc., and the recorder was also the listener himself. May all sentient beings attain the state of Chakrasamvara through this virtue! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
