Collection of Teachings by Omniscient Pema Karpo PK68: Profound Common Path Instructions. Profound Common Path Instructions. First, study the three preliminary trainings. Profound Common Path Instructions. I prostrate to the glorious root guru, who possesses all supreme qualities, speaks with the voice of omniscience, and whose wisdom and skillful means are inseparable. Through the accomplishment of reason, receiving the essence of the scriptures, practicing on the wondrous path, solely through this profound path, leading disciples to the state of Buddhahood. The snowland practitioners of the Kagyu lineage praise this path. Therefore, from perilous places, it casts beings into the unbearable abyss of samsara. Alas, do not deceive yourselves, especially those eager to accomplish the benefit of others, may they, like the young moon, beseech the gods for the good fortune to follow. Here, the profound guru yoga that leads to unsurpassed enlightenment faster than fast is divided into common and uncommon. First, study the three preliminary trainings: study the two stages of the main practice, generation and completion; study the introduction of the after-practice. First, the root of all accomplishments is the guru, therefore, whatever the guru does, understand it as a means of taming disciples. Do not have wrong views no matter what liberation is shown. Understand whatever teachings are given as pith instructions. Wear the armor of acceptance no matter what is said. Understand that whoever is being tamed is the actual, complete Buddha, and do not judge good or bad. Do not let displeasure arise even for a moment. If, due to beginningless ignorance, there is a fault of violating the three vows, or if displeasure arises from naturally engaging in negative actions, then purify it with the wisdom of self-awareness in whichever stage it occurs, whether preliminary, main, or subsequent. This will quickly purify it. Otherwise, within a day, rely on the power of the basis, which is generating the mind of enlightenment; the power of regret, which is thoroughly refuting past actions; the power of remedy, which is abiding in the yoga of Guru Vajrasattva; and the power of resolve, which is vowing not to commit the same mistakes in the future, possessing the power to वापस (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, returning) from misdeeds. This is constantly studying to keep the vows pure. Then, serve the guru with the three kinds of pleasing actions. Offering one's body, possessions, wealth, and all mental creations to the guru without any reservation is the ultimate method for accumulating merit. By this, one can attain a samadhi free from attachment to all things. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Having attained Samadhi (concentration). This Samadhi transforms into the liberation state of the noble Samantabhadra, and in this way, by offering the offerer and the offered in a non-dual manner, one accumulates the ultimate accumulation of wisdom. Furthermore, one should diligently engage in the Mandala offering to the Lama, as described in the 'Guru Puja, the Source of All Qualities,' or even in a concise manner. This is called studying the accumulation of merit. Then there is the blessing of the secret mantra. Since it is easy to attain through blessings, devotion, and prayers, the way to pray is: Visualize the root Lama as all the Lamas of the three times, like the sky filled with clouds, or like a wish-fulfilling tree with branches and sub-branches, this is the long lineage visualization. Visualize the Kagyu Lamas as if strung together with pearls, stacked high, this is the close lineage. The Lama is the embodiment of all Lamas, the essence of the Three Jewels, the mandala of support, the Yidam deity with its retinue, the Dakinis who bestow blessings, and the Dharma protectors who dispel obstacles, নিশ্চিতly believing them to be the all-encompassing Jewel. At all times, do not seek other refuges, but place your hopes solely on the Lama. Rely entirely on prayer, rely entirely on devoted practice, then all wishes will be fulfilled as desired, without any doubt. If afflictions and discriminations arise, at that time, blend the Lama with your own mind without separation, and transform whatever arises into the sound of prayer, thereby self-liberating, this is the peaceful prayer. When the elements are imbalanced, suffering, discomfort, or strong obstacles from non-humans occur, visualize the Lama in your heart smiling, and yourself also smiling joyfully, visualize all appearances as the Vajra body of the Lama, smiling. Let your mind wander in the melody of prayer, and faults will naturally dissolve. Appearances become relaxed and at ease, and the power of qualities naturally increases, this is the increasing prayer. Upwards, with devotion, subdue the Lama and the Three Jewels, downwards, with compassion, subdue the sentient beings of the six realms, this is the subduing prayer. When the mind is occupied by the trivialities of this life, and bound by the eight worldly concerns, at that time, vow to practice Dharma yourself, and rebuke those hypocrites who pretend to practice Dharma but are deceived by fox-like flattery, and so on. Wanting to abandon these faults, not just with words, but from the depths of your heart. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
