Encounter and growth. The virtuous one is the supreme of all ornaments, The virtuous one is fragrance and anointment. The virtuous one is the source of all joy, The virtuous one is the water that cools suffering. The virtuous one is praised by all the world, With pure discipline, one attains the supreme path. Like a venomous snake, so is the great black dragon, Harmless to the virtuous, what need to mention others? The virtuous monk is radiant with light, The virtuous one is renowned and attains happiness. As the blind cannot see forms, So the undisciplined cannot see the Dharma. As the footless cannot walk the path, So the undisciplined cannot be liberated. As a fine vase is a container for jewels, So discipline is the basis for generating all Dharmas. As a broken vase cannot hold jewels, So when discipline is broken, all virtues are lost. One who is initially without discipline, How can they later hope to attain Nirvana? One who is noseless or has a short nose, Indeed, does not need a mirror. Though unheard by the ear and unseen by the eye, The protector of the teachings will ascend to heaven. The learned, the knowledgeable, the protectors of learning, will surely go to heaven. How can one associate with women? How can one delight in the royal palace? How can there be eternal enjoyment? There is no reliability in women, There is no joy in kingship, There is no essence in bubbles, There is no meaning in enjoyment. Enjoyment is like flowing water, As is the boat, so is the household. As is the flower, so is the appearance. Life is like a water bubble. Thus spoke the Bhagavan (Blessed One), And the monks, including the attendant Ananda, rejoiced and praised the words of the Bhagavan. Finally, dedicating the merit: By this merit, may I attain omniscience. And may it be the sole medicine for the suffering of beings. Thus, and so on, may the Naga (serpent deity) kings, Gawo (Happy), Nyergawo (Very Happy), and others residing in Gorkhyer (location), have long life, be free from illness, be perfectly endowed, and always attain happiness. Thus it is said. These are the daily activities of the Sangha (community), the third constant practice. Then, for the sake of the novice monks focusing on reciting the Sutras (discourses), a leave-taking ceremony is performed, saying: 'I, the Shākya novice monk, named [so and so], due to being young and ignorant, unknowing, without restraint, and under the influence of many afflictions, confess all the transgressions that have occurred, stating them to the Khenpo (preceptor) and others, and confessing before them.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lalo! Accomplishment! If one confesses and repents, one will abide in happiness; if one does not confess and does not repent, it will not be so. Repeat three times. The reciter asks them: 'Do you see this as a fault?' They answer: 'We do.' He asks again: 'Will you guard it well from now on?' They answer: 'We will.' Repeat three times. If one recognizes what fault has occurred, it is sufficient to speak its name and confess. Afterwards, the reciter says: 'This is the method.' The monks say: 'Good.' This is the confession of the monks. If the monks are completely pure, this is not necessary. Then, as before, request forgiveness. 'Today is the fourteenth or fifteenth day of the Sangha's Uposatha. I am a Shākya monk, named so-and-so, and this is my fourteenth or fifteenth Uposatha. I, a Shākya monk, named so-and-so, am completely purified of all obstructing dharmas.' If I say: 'I am completely purified of all obstructing dharmas, please let the Khenpo (preceptor) etc. accept it.' Repeat three times and handle it well. This is the complete purification of the monks, and it is their Uposatha. Then the monks depart, and those monks who have committed offenses confess what should be confessed, and guard what should be guarded. For the remaining offenses that cannot be dealt with on that day, such as leftovers, it is necessary to bless them. First, treat them like other monks, saying: 'I am a monk, named so-and-so.' Secondly, those that should be guarded with the mind, guard them with the mind. Thirdly, among the assembled monks, if one is pure, and the others have committed any of the remaining offenses or expiable offenses, then each of them requests forgiveness before the pure monks, saying: 'I, a Shākya monk, named so-and-so, from childhood, due to greed, have extracted the essence from the Sangha's leftovers, or from the category of expiable offenses, have committed the expiable offense of holding robes for more than ten days. Now, I bless this offense before the venerable ones. Today, bless this offense and hold the Sangha's Uposatha, and in the future, I will deal with this offense again according to the Dharma.' Repeat three times and handle it well. If all the monks have committed any of these offenses and cannot find someone to confess to, then perform this common blessing: 'Please listen, venerable Sangha. Today the Sangha is holding the Uposatha, and all of us Sangha members are...' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
