The secret, the most secret, the unsurpassed class, The essential, the definitive, the secret instructions, In order to be free from roughness and deceit, Therefore, I write these unchanging letters of meaning. E ma! The supreme secret is not shown to others. The instructions of the Nyingthig, which are more precious than the heart, Which I dared not arrange in titles, Like the veins gathered into a knot in the heart, One hundred and nineteen supreme instructions, Gathered into four categories like the innermost secret heart. I dare not even mention their names, This is the outpouring of my heart, For the fortunate ones (5) who wish to accomplish the two benefits, Practice the secret copper-script. Please forgive my faults! If a fortunate heart-son needs it, other than reciting it verbally, if anyone hears it, they will be punished by the dakinis. Therefore, keep the heart-essence firmly in your mind, and do not reveal it easily until enlightenment. If it is heard or seen by others, it will endanger your own life. Therefore, do not spread it casually in the wind. Place it in a place far from worldly noise. Observe it constantly and offer great veneration. After you have mastered it, bury it as a treasure. Do not show it to others, nor give it to others. Like the secret heart-essence, the oral instruction is the only son that gathers all the teachings. These are letters that no one has created, because they are the first manifestation of all self-arisen things (6), so there is no inconsistency between languages and symbols. When fortunate ones see and observe, they will understand that each letter is consistent. By its power, it is separated from worldly sounds. It will not be buried by earth, washed away by water, scattered by wind, or burned by fire. It will not be feared or seen by people. This is the key point that gathers all the teachings. The fortunate heart-son writes it down, the color that the teaching relies on is, after writing with precious heart-essence, hold it inseparable from your own body. When viewing and reading, if it is seen by others, the accomplishment will disappear. Therefore, in a cemetery or deep in a forest, in a place where no one can easily reach, read and offer in secluded places such as water islands. Whoever sees this, that person is fortunate and will surely be liberated. Such a definite oral instruction is a treasure in the heart, extremely profound and indispensable, (7) is a drop of nectar that cures the diseases of beings. These heart-essence oral instructions must be kept secret, do not show them to anyone, keep them in your mind. When viewing and practicing the meaning of the heart-essence, avoid the sound of wind and hail. Others, people who do not have the fortune related to this, even if they see it, they will break their vows. If they hear it, their body and speech will be burned by fire. Therefore, keep it firmly in your mind, and use it secretly like a thief's property.
