Gatön Ngawang Lekpa's Teachings NL13: Commentary on Mindfulness of Purity 1-64 Commentary on Mindfulness of Purity Purity of the main deity's body color, posture, etc. Commentary on Mindfulness of Purity by Gatön Dorje Chang Ngawang Lekpa Homage to the feet of the venerable Lama! Within the yoga of non-fixation, the first is the purity of the main deity's body color, posture, etc.: As stated in the ninth section of the second root tantra: 'The eyes of compassion are red,' etc. The Bhagavan, through great compassion without discrimination, develops attachment to sentient beings, so all twenty-four eyes are red. With a loving heart that does not change, it symbolizes the stability of the body and limbs. By giving material gifts as appropriate, he gathers sentient beings as his retinue. He teaches them the six paramitas in accordance with their abilities, speaks sweetly, and encourages others to practice and act accordingly. To lead others to the Dharma, he himself diligently practices, which is acting in accordance with the benefit of others. He tames sentient beings with the four means of gathering, so the feet are said to be fourfold. The eight faces symbolize eight liberations, which are eight purities. These eight liberations are divided into worldly liberation, transcendental liberation, and ultimate Buddhahood liberation. First, among the eight worldly liberations, there is the liberation of seeing form with form: internally knowing that there is form, one looks at external forms, and from the perspective of shape, one can transform into various sizes and shapes, and from the perspective of color, one can transform into beautiful and unbeautiful forms. The liberation of seeing form without form: internally knowing that there is no form, the object and method are the same as before. The liberation of the unpleasant contemplation: based on the four dhyanas, if one needs to transform desirable things, or does not want to transform undesirable things, but the transformation is not complete, then one practices the antidote. At the beginning of practice, one contemplates the interdependence of the pleasant and unpleasant, and the associated thoughts. During the actual practice, one focuses single-mindedly on the unpleasant contemplation, which is the practice with three kinds of attention. The four formless liberations: namely, the sphere of infinite space, the sphere of infinite consciousness, the sphere of nothingness, and the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The four form realms (ye mched bzhi po), liberated from the obscuration of experiencing the peace of formlessness, are the aspects of liberation. The aspect of cessation is: noble ones entering into the meditative absorption of ceasing contaminated perceptions and feelings (zag bcas kyi 'du shes dang / tshor ba 'gog pa'i snyoms 'jug). The second, the eight liberations that transcend the world are the eight noble paths, which will be explained below. The third, the eight ultimate liberations are the eight powers (dbang), which will be explained in the section on hand symbols. The sixteen hand gestures are the sixteen emptinesses in their completely pure form. The sixteen hand gestures are the sixteen emptinesses in their completely pure form. Among them, the six internal sources (mig sogs nang gi skye mched), such as the eye, are not established by their own nature, which is the emptiness of the internal. The six external objects (gzugs sogs yul drug), such as forms, are not established by their own nature, which is the emptiness of the external. Both the object and the subject are not established by their own nature, which is the emptiness of both internal and external. The emptiness of such emptiness is also not established by its own nature, which is the emptiness of emptiness. All the containers and contents of the ten directions are not established by their own nature, which is the great emptiness. The ultimate truth is the highest suchness (de bzhin nyid) to be realized and the highest nirvana to be attained, and these two are not established by their own nature, which is the emptiness of ultimate truth. The three realms of conditioned phenomena, with their arising, abiding, and ceasing, are not established by their own nature, which is the emptiness of the conditioned. All unconditioned phenomena, such as space, which are without arising and ceasing, are not established by their own nature, which is the emptiness of the unconditioned. Dependent origination, which is free from the extremes of permanence and annihilation, is transcendence of extremes, and its own nature is not established, which is the emptiness of transcendence of extremes. That which has no beginning and no end is samsara, and its own nature is not established, which is the emptiness of no beginning and no end. The factors of enlightenment and so on are not to be abandoned or discarded, so there is nothing to discard, and its own nature is not established, which is the emptiness of no discarding. The emptiness of the own-nature of all phenomena is not made by anyone, so it is called own-nature, and its own nature is not established, which is the emptiness of own-nature. All phenomena of conditioned, unconditioned, samsara, and nirvana are not established by their own nature, which is the emptiness of all phenomena. All that is designated as phenomena from form to omniscience (rnam mkhyen), the meaning of all of which, such as form that can be changed, is its own characteristic, and its own nature is not established, which is the emptiness of own-characteristic. The three times are invisible, and their own nature is not established, which is the emptiness of invisibility. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
