Because the nature of mind is wisdom, these also only arise in a person who possesses a lineage of pure view. Both Jowo Je (Atiśa) and Jetsun Milarepa said the same. Similarly, Gyalwa Yang Gonpa said: 'Knowing the nature of virtue is the best of virtues; knowing the nature of non-virtue is the best of confession.' As it is said, knowing the nature of virtue is uncontaminated virtue, therefore it becomes the cause of perfect enlightenment. Knowing the nature of non-virtue is the best of confession. In the Sutra of Great Liberation, it says: 'If you want to repent, stay upright and look correctly. If you see correctly, you will be completely liberated. That is the best of repentance.' Furthermore, Āryadeva said: 'A person with little merit will not have even a slight doubt about this Dharma. If even a slight doubt arises, it will cause samsara to collapse.' In order for these to arise properly and truly in one's own mindstream, it is crucial to diligently engage in accumulating merit and purifying obscurations, and to regard the lama as the embodiment of all Buddhas, and to pray single-mindedly with intense devotion. In the explanatory tantra of the Chakrasamvara Root Tantra, the Yoginī Tantra Samuccaya, it says: 'By whose kindness, great bliss arises in an instant, the lama is like a precious body, I prostrate to the lotus feet of Vajradhara.' Furthermore, Chögyal Phakpa said: 'By relying on you steadfastly, one receives blessings immediately, attains perfect enlightenment in an instant, or accomplishes all perfections.' The tantra says: 'With six months of unwavering devotion, one will attain the state of Vajradhara.' Dromtön asked Jowo Je: 'Have the Dharmas I practiced before become the path or not?' The尊者 replied: 'Your service to Lama Setsun has become the path, but the others have not.' Dromtön then asked: 'We Tibetans have many practitioners, but why do they not develop special qualities?' The尊者 replied: 'The qualities of the Mahayana, whether great or small, all depend on the lama. But in your Tibet, people only have an ordinary perception of the lama, how can qualities arise?' As it is said, in order to directly see the profound reality of all Dharmas, no method is more supreme than lama yoga. Therefore, practicing lama yoga should not be merely lip service, but should allow an unbearable feeling of devotion to burn like a fire from within. There should be nothing other than the lama. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Without distraction or forgetfulness. Understand that all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the ten directions are emanations of your own Guru. No matter how many wondrous biographies of Tibetan and Chinese Gurus, wise ones, and accomplished ones you see or hear, know that they are solely emanations of your own Guru. Be certain that the Guru is the complete embodiment of the Three Jewels (Buddha, Dharma, Sangha), and when offering your own flesh and blood to the Guru, feel it is not enough. When remembering the Guru and praying with songs of longing, tears fall like rain from your eyes. If you possess such intense longing that you feel your flesh and bones are about to break down, and can pray in this way, then there is no doubt that hearing, contemplation, and meditation will be swiftly perfected. If it is not like this, and you only occasionally remember the Guru, or recite a few 'Guru, be mindful,' and consider it done, this is different from practicing the profound Guru Yoga, so engage in pure practice without deceiving yourself; that is best. 1-63 The Omniscient Jamyang Kunga Tenpai Gyaltsen said: 'Know all objects of refuge to be the nature of the Guru, see all virtuous actions as the path of the Guru, know all samsara and nirvana to arise as the play of the Guru, bless me to perceive all appearances and existence as the Guru.' If such a state arises, then you have gained an unmistaken and certain understanding of the practice of profound Guru Yoga. This was written at the repeated request of Thartse Zhabdrung Rinpoche Jampa Namkha Kunzang Tenpai Gyaltsen and many other disciples who had listened to the Lamdre, recording their understanding of the key points of view as they arose in their minds. Spoken by the Sakya monk Ngakwang Lekpa, and written down by Kunga Tenpai Nyima of Dezhung Lungrik. Auspicious! Auspicious! Auspicious! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
