After contemplating deeply on the way of demonstrating the ground: 1-52 When does the realization of appearance as mind arise? For example, when salt dissolves in water, it is impossible to separate the salt from the water. Similarly, one realizes that there is no dharma other than mind, and one may even experience not knowing whether one's own body exists separately. The characteristic of the blending of appearance and mind is said not to occur until the attainment of the eighth bhumi. Therefore, the above experience is not the actual blending of appearance and mind, but merely a manifestation of experience in the state of a yogi. Some say that establishing appearance as mind is not the view of the Prasangika Madhyamaka school. This is very unreasonable, because Nāgārjuna, Āryadeva, and Chandrakīrti all said that appearance is mind. Could one say that they did not realize the view of the Prasangika school? How strange! The omniscient scholar Mipham Rinpoche said in his commentary on the Madhyamakalankara: 'Establishing appearance as mind is a special characteristic of the tenets of all Buddhists, the way things really are, the essential point of the profound instructions for meditation, like the key to destroying the labyrinth of existence, like a doctor skilled in the vital points of life, like a carpenter skilled in the essential points of wood.' 1-53 'If it is grasped by a special method, then ultimately in the Vajrayana, this alone is the essence of the essential instructions.' And so on, he made many praises of establishing appearance as mind. Saying that appearance is mind means that self-appearance is mind, not other-appearance. The Omniscient Könchok Lhündrup said: 'In the self-nature where one's own mind appears as many, the self-aware illusory person knows his own face, self and other are unceasing, interdependent, and empty in nature, the self-born, inexpressible, look at the self-face of the dharmadhatu.' Therefore, when looking at the mind with the way of looking at the mind, the clear, bright, and uninterrupted experience itself is called clarity, the characteristic of the mind. That mere clarity, in terms of its own essence, initially has no birth, therefore the cause of birth is empty; in the middle there is no abiding, therefore the nature of abiding is empty; in the end there is no cessation, therefore the result of cessation is empty; it is not formed into color and shape, it does not exist anywhere in the outer, inner, or intermediate parts of the body, and no matter how one searches, one cannot find it, and no matter how one examines it, it cannot be established. That itself is called emptiness, the nature of the mind. Thus, at the very moment when nothing is established in its nature, the various powers of self-appearance arise unceasingly, therefore it has never been absent from the beginning. 1-54 The power of self-appearance... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When unobstructed appearances arise, nothing is established in its own nature, so it has never existed from the beginning. The nature that has never existed from the beginning is emptiness, and the characteristic that has never disappeared from the beginning is clarity. These two have never been separated from the beginning, so they appear clearly as self-display, purely as self-emptiness, and nakedly as self-awareness. Only each individual experiences this through the wisdom of their own awareness, but apart from that, the ultimate reality has no identifiable essence, cannot be grasped by the mind, and cannot be expressed in words. However, in conventional truth, to dispel the confusion of the world, it is called 'non-duality,' it is called 'union,' it is called 'ineffable,' and it is called 'the nature of the un fabricated mind.' Such a state pervades all of samsara and nirvana, but those who do not recognize their own face are called 'samsaric beings,' and those who recognize it are called 'those who have passed beyond sorrow.' Samsara and nirvana are merely distinctions made from the perspective of realization and non-realization, but in terms of reality itself, there is no bad samsara to be abandoned separately, and no good nirvana to be attained separately. If this is well understood, it is called realizing the view of the inseparability of samsara and nirvana. In short, awareness, clarity, emptiness, and non-grasping are never separate from this. Abiding effortlessly and naturally in a state where there is nothing to meditate on, as Je tsun Rinpoche Drakpa said in his song: 'If the mind has no beginning, how can there be abiding and ceasing? If there is no arising and ceasing, thinking is just conceptualization, let it go! Letting go is also conceptualization.' And: 'The term 'free from extremes' is beyond expression. Madhyamaka, Cittamatra, and so on, words are just elaboration, thoughts are just conceptualization.' If you do not realize the naturally arising state and are not familiar with the instruction of non-grasping, no matter how you think, you will fall into grasping. Even if you think of non-grasping, you will fall into grasping. Understand that the emptiness in which clarity does not cease is the state of union.' And as Sakya Pandita said: 'Existence and non-existence, etc., do not exist in the reality of things. With meditator and meditation, etc., there is nothing to meditate on. Since the mind has no essence, how can there be a recognition of the mind? Because it is beyond the realm of words, there is nothing to say.' When arising from that equipoise, whatever forms are seen by the eye are merely appearances, and from the very beginning, appearance and emptiness are inseparable, samsara and nirvana are inseparable. Whatever sounds are heard by the ear are merely sound... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
