A Commentary on the Vajra and Bell - A Precious Treasure for Mantra Holders Namo Guru Buddha Dhvajaye Homage to the Guru, Buddha, and Flag). In this land of snow, the master of the complete teachings, Is known as Sakya's great Kunga Nyingpo. Along with his lineage of fathers and sons, and especially, The sun of the teachings in this degenerate age, the king of mantra holders. The lord of speech, Kunga Rinchen, And his sons, the brothers Jamyang, and Muspa Je. Before the inseparable self-aware guru, I prostrate. For the precious treasure of mantra holders, I will spread this commentary on the vajra and bell. Clear-minded, truth-seeking, fortunate students, Do not be lazy, draw on the picture of good words. To accomplish the benefit of self and others, hold it in your mind. Thus, praising and vowing to explain, thereby exhorting to uphold. Here, I will explain this treatise called 'A Commentary on the Vajra and Bell - A Precious Treasure for Mantra Holders.' In general, the root foundation of the secret mantra Vajrayana path and all attainments lies in abiding by vows and commitments. Moreover, the four great tantras have their own unique initiation rituals to enable those who have not received the mantra vows to receive them. Related to this, the ways of guarding vows and commitments also differ slightly. The four differences lie in that, especially if all the vows of the Anuttarayoga Tantra are included, then in terms of the stages of an individual's path, they can be summarized into three vows: the vow of a beginner, the vow of one who has attained stability, and the vow of one who has attained greater stability. Among these three, there are four: the vows to be protected, the vows to be consumed, the vows to be practiced or relied upon, and the vows not to be separated. The other three will be explained in their respective chapters. Here, the vows of non-separation are specifically explained. In general, as stated in the tantras, one should hold the properly characterized painted images, scriptures, vajra and bell, drum, skull cup, khatvanga, nectar vase, pouring vase, rosary, human skin clothing, Dharma garments, tiger skin skirt, tiger skin or coarse cloth cushion, six bone ornaments, and so on. Among these, holding the vajra and bell of vows is particularly important. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As it is said in the scriptures as an 'inseparable vow,' its forms are shown in two aspects: the Vajra and Bell in terms of what is symbolized, and the Vajra and Bell as symbols. The first, as the scripture says: 'The Bodhicitta is Vajra, and Wisdom is the Bell.' As stated, the Bodhicitta endowed with skillful means and great compassion is the Vajra in terms of meaning, and Wisdom, the emptiness devoid of all extremes of elaboration, is the Bell in terms of meaning. Through the union of these two, one practices inseparably at all times. Now, a general presentation of the form of the symbolic Vajra and Bell. The second part includes: a general presentation of the form of the symbolic Vajra and Bell, and a special explanation of the Vow Vajra and Bell. First, in the forms of the Vajra and Bell, we first discuss the Vajra, including four aspects: classification, material, presentation of size and characteristics, and the presentation of purity or Suchness. The first is the classification. Generally, the classifications of Vajras are: nine-pronged Vajra (Wisdom Vajra), five-pronged Vajra (Vow Vajra), three-pronged Vajra (Action Vajra), single-pronged Vajra (Vajra that destroys the Nagas), horned Vajra (Wrathful Vajra), and Secret Ornament Vajra. These are explained in the 'Clear Explanation of the Six Essentials.' Second is the material of these Vajras. The thirty-first chapter of the 'Vajra Dakini Tantra' says: 'Gold and other metals are hammered into auspiciousness.' 'Etc.' includes: silver, sandalwood, red sandalwood, and other materials. Third is the presentation of size and characteristics, including the overall upper, middle, and lower sizes, and the sizes of each part. First is the overall size. The 'Vajra Dakini Tantra' says: 'Eight fingers is the small size, ten fingers is the middle size, sixteen or twenty-two is the large size. More than this size should not be made.' Because it would exceed the size limit. The 'Bhadrakalpika Sutra' says: 'Starting from eight fingers, up to twenty-two fingers, the numbers are equal. Increasing the size beyond this finger measurement should not be done.' Therefore, the smallest size is eight fingers, the middle size is sixteen fingers, and the largest size is twenty-two fingers. Exceeding this size is not permissible. Furthermore, 'Two fingers can be added or subtracted.' Therefore, it should be known that from eight fingers to twenty-two fingers, it can be increased or decreased by two fingers at a time. The sizes between eight fingers, ten fingers, twelve fingers, fourteen fingers, eighteen fingers, twenty fingers, and twenty-two fingers can be determined according to one's own intention or suitability. Second is the size of each part. The 'Samputa Tantra' says: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
