第五,萨迦派(sa skya pa)大师的《现观庄严颂》(mngon par rtogs pa tshigs bcad ma)或称《词句宝瓶》(tshig gi bum pa)中说:‘瑜伽有两种,即止瑜伽(mnyam par bzhag pa'i rnal 'byor)和动瑜伽(mnyam par ma bzhag rnal 'byor)。

It is the mandala (kyil 'khor), which has five aspects: the individual who meditates (gang zag), the place where one meditates (gnas), the time when one meditates (dus), the intention with which one meditates (bsam pa), and the yoga that is meditated upon (rnal 'byor). First, the person who meditates must have received empowerment (dbang bskur) in their respective mandala and possess samaya (dam tshig) and vows (sdom pa). Second, for beginners, the place of meditation, as stated in the Root Tantra (rtsa rgyud): 'The place is where one meditates, where samadhi increases, the place is a good place, one's own home.' Therefore, one should meditate in one's own home, which is agreeable to the mind. After gaining some stability, one can meditate in charnel grounds (dur khrod) and by the water, etc. After gaining great stability, there is no fixed place. Third, if considering one session (thun), one should meditate at night. If dividing into three sessions, as stated in the Root Tantra: 'Meditate in three sessions, meditate in this way.' According to the pure tradition (dag ldan), it can be divided into three sessions: morning, noon, and evening, or three sessions each during the day and night. There is also a saying in verse that divides it into four sessions: evening session, midnight session, dawn session, and morning session. After gaining stability, there is no fixed session. Regarding intention, the Root Tantra states: 'With the mind of accomplishing oneself, with a mind free from doubt, perform all these activities.' Fifth, in the Manifest Realization in Verse (mngon par rtogs pa tshigs bcad ma) by the great Sakya master (sa skya pa), also known as the Vase of Words (tshig gi bum pa), it says: 'There are two types of yoga: the yoga of remaining in equipoise (mnyam par bzhag pa'i rnal 'byor) and the yoga of not remaining in equipoise (mnyam par ma bzhag rnal 'byor). The yoga of equipoise is divided into generation stage (bskyed rim) and completion stage (rdzogs rim), and the yoga of non-equipoise has eight aspects.' These should be explained accordingly. Here, if someone practices the ten yogas continuously day and night, from where should one begin the session? Some believe it should begin with refuge (skyabs 'gro), but here it begins with the yoga of sleep (nyal ba'i rnal 'byor). The generation stage is also divided into three parts: preliminary (sngon 'gro), main practice (dngos gzhi), and concluding practice (rjes). First, the preliminary is further divided into three outer preliminaries and three special preliminaries. Regarding these three common preliminaries, some later Sakyas believe that they should be practiced because they surpass the common Hinayana (nyan) and Mahayana (theg chen), but this is unreasonable because merely reciting Vajrasattva (rdo rje sems dpa') does not need to prove that it surpasses the common Mahayana. Therefore, our own view is that it is taught to increase the three vows. Taking refuge is seeking protection from the supreme Three Jewels (dkon mchog gsum) and the lamas (bla ma).
