This indicates that one must learn the ten aspects: the five aspects of a layperson (དགེ་བསྙེན་, Skt: upāsaka, referring to a Buddhist who vows to observe the five precepts) and the five aspects of an ordained person, namely, celibacy (ཚངས་སྤྱོད་, Skt: brahmacarya, referring to one who observes the vow of abstinence), novice monk (དགེ་ཚུལ་, Skt: śrāmaṇera, referring to a male novice Buddhist monk), novice nun (དགེ་སློང་མ་, Skt: śrāmaṇerikā, referring to a female novice Buddhist nun), probationary nun (བར་སློབ་མ་, Skt: śikṣamāṇā, referring to a female in the preparatory stage of becoming a bhikṣuṇī, observing the six root precepts), and fully ordained monk (དགེ་སློང་, Skt: bhikṣu, referring to a fully ordained Buddhist monk). The meaning of 'the Vaibhāṣika (བྱེ་བྲག་སྨྲ་བ་, Skt: Vaibhāṣika) doctrine is explained' is as follows: According to the five bases of knowledge explained in the Abhidharmakośa (མཛོད་, Skt: Abhidharmakośa), namely, form (གཟུགས་, Skt: rūpa), mind (སེམས་, Skt: citta), mental factors (སེམས་ལས་བྱུང་བ་, Skt: caitta), non-associated compositional factors (ལྡན་པ་མ་ཡིན་པའི་འདུ་བྱེད་, Skt: cittaviprayuktasaṃskāra), and unconditioned phenomena (འདུས་མ་བྱས་, Skt: asaṃskṛta), as well as the distinction between contaminated (ཟག་བཅས་, Skt: sāsrava) and uncontaminated (ཟག་མེད་, Skt: anāsrava), conditioned (འདུས་བྱས་, Skt: saṃskṛta) and unconditioned, aggregates (ཕུང་པོ་, Skt: skandha), elements (ཁམས་, Skt: dhātu), sources (སྐྱེ་མཆེད་, Skt: āyatana), truths (བདེན་པ་, Skt: satya), and so on, one establishes them through extensive classification and study and contemplation (ཐོས་བསམ་, Skt: śruta-cintā), and demonstrates how to achieve the result of enlightenment (བྱང་ཆུབ་, Skt: bodhi) by cultivating śamatha-vipaśyanā (ཞི་གནས་ལྷག་མཐོང་, Skt: śamatha-vipaśyanā). The Sautrāntika (མདོ་སྡེ་པ་, Skt: Sautrāntika) view is similar. Their meaning is that, based on the twelve branches of scripture (གསུང་རབ་ཡན་ལག་བཅུ་གཉིས་, Skt: dvādaśāṅga-buddhavacana), all phenomena are mind (ཆོས་ཐམས་ཅད་སེམས་, Skt: cittamātra), although the mind is the basis of appearance, it is merely a support for external objects. They believe that the appearance of external objects is possible, and that the ten bhūmis (ས་བཅུ་, Skt: daśa-bhūmi) of a bodhisattva (བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་དཔའ་, Skt: bodhisattva) and the three kāyas (སྐུ་གསུམ་, Skt: trikāya) are also possible. Therefore, one should study the Abhidharmasamuccaya (མངོན་པ་ཀུན་ལས་བཏུས་, Skt: Abhidharmasamuccaya) and the commentary on the Abhidharmakośa in detail. Next is the Yogācāra Its meaning is: 'The place of knowledge and its characteristics, the way to enter it, the distinction between its causes and results, the abandonment of the three trainings and their results, and the excellent vehicle of wisdom, are extraordinary.' As stated in the Mahāyāna-abhidharma-sūtra (ཆོས་མངོན་པ་ཐེག་པ་ཆེན་པོའི་མདོ་, Skt: Mahāyāna-abhidharma-sūtra), one should learn the summary of the ten bases of knowledge of the Mahāyāna (ཐེག་པ་ཆེན་པོ་, Skt: Mahāyāna), as well as the path (ལམ་, Skt: mārga) and result (འབྲས་བུ་, Skt: phala). After that, the Madhyamaka (དབུ་མ་, Skt: Madhyamaka) doctrine is explained. Its meaning is that the basis of the path and result is the same as that of the Yogācāra, but the difference in view is that it shows that all phenomena, including the mind, are without inherent existence (རང་བཞིན་མེད་པ་, Skt: niḥsvabhāva) in the ultimate truth (དོན་དམ་པ་, Skt: paramārtha). Regarding this, there are similarities with the conventionalist (འཇིག་རྟེན་གྲགས་སྡེ་བ་, Skt: laukikavyavahārasiddhānta) and the Vaibhāṣika (བྱེ་བྲག་ཏུ་སྨྲ་བ་, Skt: Vaibhāṣika), as well as the views of the Sautrāntika (མདོ་སྡེ་སྤྱོད་པའི་, Skt: Sautrāntika) and the illusion-like (སྒྱུ་མ་ལྟ་བུ་, Skt: māyopama), and the Yogācāra-Madhyamaka (རྣལ་འབྱོར་སྤྱོད་པའི་དབུ་མ་, Skt: Yogācāra-Madhyamaka), making a total of five different views on conventional truth (ཀུན་རྫོབ་, Skt: saṃvṛti). However, in the ultimate truth, it only shows that there is no inherent existence and that it is beyond expression. Therefore, one should study the Buddha's words (བཀའ་, Skt: buddhavacana) and the countless treatises (བསྟན་བཅོས་, Skt: śāstra) of the Mahāyāna. 'Knowing all the stages of tantra' means that one should study the Kriyātantra (བྱ་རྒྱུད་, Skt: Kriyātantra), such as the Subhāṣitasiddhi (ལེགས་གྲུབ་, Skt: Subhāṣitasiddhi) and the Bhadrakalpikasūtra (དཔུང་བཟང་, Skt: Bhadrakalpikasūtra); the Caryātantra (སྤྱོད་པའི་རྒྱུད་, Skt: Caryātantra), such as the Vairocanābhisambodhi (རྣམ་སྣང་མངོན་བྱང་, Skt: Vairocanābhisambodhi) and the Mañjuśrīmūlatantra (འཇམ་དཔལ་རྩ་རྒྱུད་, Skt: Mañjuśrīmūlatantra); and the Yogatantra (རྣལ་འབྱོར་རྒྱུད་, Skt: Yogatantra), such as the Guhyasamāja (གསང་བ་འདུས་པ་, Skt: Guhyasamāja) and the Cakrasaṃvara (བདེ་མཆོག་, Skt: Cakrasaṃvara). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
