To illustrate the correspondence between the name and meaning he spoke of, it is written in the Precious Teachings of the Victorious One: 'May the wise behold the mirror of clear karmic results, well-crafted by the blacksmith of discernment.' Fifth, to elaborate on the colophon of this treatise in prose, explaining it along with the text's extent, it is said: 'The Mirror of Clear Karmic Results, which clearly demonstrates the arrangement of karmic causes and effects, was composed by a noble one who speaks the truth without deviation, in the Iron Male Horse year, on the nineteenth day of the first month of autumn.' There are forty verses in total. Through these, the meaning commentary on The Mirror of Clear Karmic Results, called The Sun That Increases Merit, from the immaculate teachings of the protector of beings, the Dharma King 'Phags pa Rin po che (Noble Jewel), has been completely explained. Here it is stated: If there are any discerning ones who desire the lotus garden of merit, born in their own continuum, to flourish, then respectfully accept this treatise, which is like daylight, and which allows one to have a wondrously correct view of the world. In the past, the Dharma King of the Sakya school, the glorious 'Phags pa, with the power and splendor of his might, filled Tibet and all the holy lands, including India, and all bowed at his feet. It is said that at that time, the local ruler, the king, offered the entire snowy land for religious purposes, and everyone could live happily in their own place, in whatever way they pleased. Such kindness should be remembered by all, but nowadays some, arrogant due to sudden events, abandon the undisputed Dharma and reliable individuals, and instead admire newly emerged self-proclaimed scholars. However, with my own clear eye of wisdom, I have generated gratitude for the wondrous biography of the Dharma King, and therefore composed this, may this virtue completely accomplish all benefits for myself and others! This meaning commentary on The Mirror of Clear Karmic Results, called The Sun That Increases Merit, is from the immaculate teachings of the Lord of the Three Realms, the protector of beings, the Dharma King 'Phags pa Rin po che (Noble Jewel). It was composed by Jampal (mañjuśrī) , the accomplished hero, the emanation of Padma (padma, lotus), and the emanation of King Śāntarakṣita, the hidden yogi, mantra holder Drakpa Gyaltsen (grags pa blo gros rgyal mtshan, Fame Intelligence Banner), and the master of all lineages, inseparable from the sixth Vajradhara, the possessor of wisdom, compassion, and power... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
