Instructions on the Oral Transmission of the Stages of the Path. Instructions on the Oral Transmission of the Stages of the Path. From the Nectar Drops of the Sacred Dharma: The written instructions on the Oral Transmission of the Stages of the Path, the Thus-Gone-One resides. Copied from the handwriting of TsoGyal. ༁ྃ May I pay homage to all the Sugatas! Although I am a woman of lowly birth, by the kindness of the Guru, I have seen the face of the Thus-Gone-One, the Medicine Buddha, together with his retinue. To be able to sit before you, the second Buddha, the Medicine Buddha, and partake of the inexhaustible nectar of the profound Dharma, what a fortunate destiny! Now, I offer this radiant turquoise jewel from my crown as a mandala, and for the benefit of myself and future beings, I beseech you to bestow the essence of the Nectar Drops of the Sacred Dharma, the instructions on the Completion Stage! Having made this request, the Great Teacher spoke thus: Excellent is this request, Lady TsoGyal! Listen and record it in writing, and I shall explain it for the benefit of beings. Thus he spoke. Samaya! Seal, seal, seal! Now, if you wish to practice the Oral Transmission of the Stages of the Path, you should understand the three parts: the preliminaries, the main practice, and the conclusion. Samaya! Seal, seal, seal! First, the preliminaries are of two kinds: common and special. The common preliminaries are: the difficulty of obtaining leisure and endowment, impermanence and death, the infallibility of karma, and the sufferings of samsara, all of which should be understood in general. Samaya! Seal, seal, seal! The special preliminaries are: taking refuge, generating bodhicitta, the seven-branch practice, the meditation and recitation of Vajrasattva, together with the mandala offering. These should be practiced diligently, divided into sessions, and cultivated for a long time. By this, all the accumulated sins and obscurations of lifetimes, accumulated through the three doors of body, speech, and mind, will be completely purified. Turning away from samsara, and generating revulsion, the accumulation of merit, either gradually or suddenly, will manifest enlightenment. Samaya! Seal, seal, seal! The extraordinary and supreme preliminaries are: all the Buddhas of the three times attained enlightenment by relying on the Guru. Therefore, practice Guru Yoga and supplicate: On the crown of your own ordinary head, on a lotus and moon seat, a yellow HUNG syllable (藏文:ཧཱུྃ,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽) surrounded by the A (藏文:ཨ,梵文天城体:अ,梵文罗马拟音:a,汉语字面意思:阿) li (藏文:ཨཱ་ལི་ཀཱ་ལི,梵文天城体:आलि कालि,梵文罗马拟音:āli kāli,汉语字面意思:阿哩嘎哩). Radiate light. Offer to the Sugata Buddhas and their Bodhisattva sons. Gather all the compassion, blessings, abilities, and power, transform them into the nature of light and rays, and dissolve them into the seed syllable. Glory and light, blaze with splendor. Sentient beings of the three realms.

May it descend! May all karmas and afflictions be purified like sunlight on mist. May the seeds of the three kayas be placed in the continuum. Then, may the syllable Hūṃ (藏文:ཧཱུྃ,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽) together with the vowels A (藏文:ཨཱ,梵文天城体:आ,梵文罗马拟音:ā,汉语字面意思:阿), Ī (藏文:ཨཱི,梵文天城体:ई,梵文罗马拟音:ī,汉语字面意思:伊), etc., transform, and from that transformation, may the guru who teaches the Dharma to oneself from one's own nature, the Bhagavan Buddha, majestic like a golden mountain, whose body is adorned with excellent marks and signs, and whose crown is radiant with light, be the complete and perfect Buddha of Medicine; above that, the Buddha of Excellent Name; above that, the King of Melodious Sound; above that, the Buddha of Pure Gold Without Stain; above that, the Supreme Buddha Without Sorrow; above that, the Buddha of the Ocean of Dharma; above that, the Buddha of Dharma Intellect, all manifestly dwelling in the sky, raised to the height of a cubit. May all the victorious ones and their sons be as clear as the stars in the sky, and with unwavering faith, entrust your mind and knowledge to them, and from the depths of your heart, offer fervent prayers with intense renunciation, and persevere for a long time; receive the four empowerments; may all the Buddhas and their sons dissolve into light, and as if gradually ascending from one to two, may they descend and dissolve into the guru Buddha at the crown of your head. May the guru Buddha also melt like butter placed on a hot stone, and dissolve into your own body, speech, and mind. Thus, in general, may all the victorious ones and their sons, and in particular, may all the compassion, blessings, and aspirational power of the Eight Sugatas be obtained by you in that very instant; thinking that all sentient beings are liberated from samsara and become glorious, remain in a state of non-fabrication. This is the great gateway through which all blessings and siddhis arise; those fortunate enough to see the guru as the Dharmakaya will attain siddhis in this life and touch the supreme ground; those who see the guru as the Sambhogakaya will be liberated in the bardo and be born in a pure land; those who see the guru as the Nirmanakaya will obtain a body that practices the Dharma and attain the path of liberation. Those who deviate from these, and whose faith and devotion to the guru gradually diminish, no matter how much they devote themselves to the Dharma and the Buddha, will not be liberated from samsara, just as a leaky boat sinks in the water. In particular, those who do not want the guru, the guide to liberation, but treat the Dharma like bees and honey, because they have abandoned the guru, turn their backs on all the Buddhas and are said to have abandoned the refuge of the Three Jewels. Even if they receive instructions from a hundred gurus, they will not be liberated, and by losing faith in one, they will lose faith in all. That is a downfall.
