An Opening to the Art of Reasoning in Collected Topics. An Opening to the Art of Reasoning in Collected Topics. Herein lies the Opening to the Art of Reasoning in Collected Topics. With the vigor of the rising red-yellow sun, severing demons and the darkness of ignorance with the sword of wisdom, with mindfulness proclaiming the lion's roar of reasoning, I prostrate to the supreme deity who bestows the glory of eloquence. Relying on the lamp of words of accurate certainty, thereby understanding the meaning of the ocean of philosophical tenets such as grammar, for those with minds capable of contemplation, I shall explain the key to unerringly distinguishing. Thus, it is necessary to clarify the meaning of the precious words of the Victorious One without error through the three doors of explanation, debate, and composition, and these three also rely on the path of words of accurate certainty. If one is skilled in the meaning of speech, then there will be no obstacles in speaking on the positions of assertion and refutation. Therefore, summarizing and listing the key points of these as appropriate, first is the distinction of pervasion and boundaries, etc. A thing that has ceased is not ceased, a thing that has not ceased is ceased. When saying this, a thing that has ceased is not a thing, so it has no cessation. A thing that has not ceased is a thing, so saying that it has ceased is according to desire. There is also no acceptance that what has ceased is not ceased, and what has not ceased is ceased. If what has ceased is not ceased, then the sound of ceased is not an object to be apprehended by the mind, and ceased does not become what is signified. If what has ceased is not that, then ceased does not become established. A thing that has ceased is not a thing that has ceased, a thing that has not ceased is a thing that has ceased, saying this is also the same as before. A thing is a pot generality, a pot generality is not a thing, etc. A thing is knowable, but knowable is not a thing is similar. A permanent thing is knowable, but it is necessary to accept that knowable is a permanent thing. Thus, it is not proper to accept that knowable is a permanent thing. If a pot generality is not a pot generality, then there is no object for the mind to enter into the sound of pot generality, because a pot generality is not a pot generality. If it is said that it is not a pot generality, then the sound of pot generality enters, then a non-pot generality phenomenon should become a non-pot generality, because it is a non-pot generality. Although the three characteristics are the same, the word and meaning become different in terms of the subject, consequence, and reason. Is a non-pot generality itself a non-pot generality or not? If it is, then it is accepted as a non-pot generality.

If not? Isn't it not the general characteristic of a vase? Since that is not not the general characteristic of a vase, by understanding the double negative, even if one admits it is the general characteristic of a vase, one must examine in detail whether the general characteristic of a vase is the general characteristic of a vase, etc. It contradicts the previous admission that it is. If that is the case, then it is not the general characteristic of a vase. The general characteristic of a vase is or is not, both must be admitted. This is certain. Furthermore, does that general characteristic of a vase return from being the general characteristic of a vase, or does it not return? According to the first case, one admits that the general characteristic of a vase is not the general characteristic of a vase. According to the second case, one admits that it is. If that is the case, does that which is not the general characteristic of a vase return or not return? If it returns, one admits that it is not the general characteristic of a vase. That which is neither permanent nor real is the general characteristic of a vase. The sign is correct. It is impossible for both a pillar and a vase to be neither or both, it is the general characteristic of what is. It is the general characteristic of a vase, the sign is correct, etc., examine. That which is impossible to be is necessarily a knowable that is possible to be. This is necessarily so. Because it is both a general characteristic and a specific characteristic. It is a specific characteristic, because it is a specific characteristic of the knowable. Both possible and impossible are specific characteristics of the knowable, and if the knowable has a distinction between those two, then it is impossible. If it is possible, the knowable has possible and impossible. There would be three cases where both are, the first like a vase, etc., the second like neither a pillar nor a vase. Both a pillar and a vase, that is possible and is. The possibility of not being is also, so there are three. Or it will become a case of both being. What is the use of explaining such a nomenclature? Neither a pillar nor a vase. Both general and specific characteristics are. It is a general characteristic, because it is not the general characteristic of a golden pillar and a golden vase. The sign is correct. It is a specific characteristic, because it is its specific characteristic. The sign is correct. Neither a pillar nor a vase is a knowable, because it is a knowable that is possible and impossible. If not, self-not and the opposite dharma will also become not, if one does not understand neither a pillar nor a vase, one will also not understand self-not and impossible. From the point of view of meaning, if it is a negation, one must completely admit that there are no three sentences, but if one considers the way of expressing words, three sentences may be established. That which is permanent, like space, etc. That which is not, like a vase, etc. Both are, like thinking that which is permanent is permanent. Neither are, just as one admits that both permanent and real are not permanent. Not permanent and impermanent have the same meaning, if it is not permanent, then it is necessarily impermanent. If it is not impermanent, then it is permanent.
