Moreover, wealth and possessions are like the appearance of a dream. If examined carefully, they are ultimately without essence, unstable, uncertain, subject to separation, subject to destruction, deceptive, and prone to suffering, making them utterly unreliable. However, without realizing this, we are deceived by the illusion of happiness and permanence, wasting our precious human life, and constantly experiencing the busyness of sin and suffering. In such a state, inevitable death, like a thunderbolt striking the head, will destroy us without exception. Moreover, death occurs unwillingly, and its timing is unpredictable. After death, we are certain to be reborn in either the higher realms or the lower realms, according to the pull of our good and bad karma. No one in the world, not even the gods, can transcend this infallible law of cause and effect. Even arhats with remaining aggregates must experience the residue of their past karma, so what need to mention ordinary beings? Therefore, the fruits of good and bad karma, happiness and suffering, are certain to ripen without fail. Most sentient beings, under the control of karma and afflictions, perform little virtuous action and commit much non-virtuous action, naturally falling into the three lower realms. If reborn in the lower realms, in hell, the suffering of heat and cold is unbearable and extremely prolonged, causing torment; in the realm of hungry ghosts, there is great suffering from hunger and thirst; in the animal realm, there is ignorance, mutual devouring, exploitation, and various other sufferings. Those who cannot endure even a day of heat, cold, fatigue, hunger, or thirst in the human realm, how will they endure such suffering if reborn in those places? Even if unbearable, there is no opportunity to transfer to another place until the karma is exhausted, making it a place of great fear. However, few people contemplate this now. Even if reborn in the higher realms, humans still experience the suffering of birth, aging, sickness, and death, not getting what they want, and encountering what they don't want. Asuras experience conflict, and gods experience death and falling. No matter which realm of the three realms one is born into, it is filled with the suffering of suffering, the suffering of change, and the pervasive suffering of conditioned existence.

Oppressed by the three sufferings, without any freedom, like the fiery pit and the island of rakshasas in the realm of samsara, sentient beings revolve here again and again without beginning or end like a wheel of fire. Resolving that there is no other refuge to escape from that state except the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, it is extremely important to strive to remember the Buddha and so on. Therefore, one should first cultivate the perception of faith in the Buddha. The so-called Buddha in the world is one who, from countless eons in the past, has perfected the mind of enlightenment for the benefit of all sentient beings, and has reached the ultimate end of immeasurable completion, maturation, and purification. He has become the supreme refuge, protector, and companion until the ultimate end of all sentient beings, with a great body of wisdom that is free from all obscurations. He has attained the Dharmakaya, like an ocean of uncontaminated qualities such as the ten powers and fearlessness. He possesses the wisdom to directly perceive all knowable things of the three times. With the immeasurable sound of speech endowed with sixty branches, he shows the light of the Dharma in all boundless worlds. His body is adorned with the thirty-two major marks and eighty minor marks, and when seen, it brings joy to the mind. He is as clear and bright as the sun in the world with gods and humans. Even the qualities of a single pore and a single ray of light cannot be exhausted even if the Buddhas and Bhagavad-Buddhadas residing in countless realms were to speak of them for countless eons, let alone all the qualities. Therefore, how much more so is it to see such an inconceivable supreme being of qualities in person, to hear his voice, to remember him with one's whole heart, and to attend to and worship him? Even seeing a mere image of his body painted in a picture, and hearing the sound of his name, will gradually become an inexhaustible seed for turning towards enlightenment, and in the meantime, it will become a cause for experiencing various pleasures of happy migrations. As it is said in the Great Compassion White Lotus Sutra: Merely throwing a single flower into the sky towards the Buddha, merely generating a single pure thought towards the Buddha, even sentient beings who have fallen into the realm of animals
