Essential Recipes for Crafts Essential Recipes for Crafts Here ends the Essential Recipes for Crafts. May the author benefit all sentient beings. Having paid homage to Manjushri, from the great ocean of crafts, I have compiled a few essential drops of water. Regarding the preparation of incense, the base of all incense is cedar powder. The fragrant old cedar tree should be ground with water into a paste, water added, and boiled four or five times. Filter through fine cloth, discard the residue, and keep the filtrate. Regarding the refining of Nāgi, boil butter until it is completely boiled, and when the foam has subsided, add it before it turns black, and stir and roast it. When it is all colored and yellow, take it out before it turns black, and quench it with alcohol. Wipe off the oil, and in a wide stone mortar, dry-grind the Nāgi into a fine powder. Add three times the amount of good honey-rich alcohol and musk. "The palace of the dragon girl is destroyed by the poison of the dragon," which refers to alcohol and musk. Add one part and refine it like paint. With the power of alcohol and musk, it is easy to refine. Refine it until the color turns white. Apply it to the nail and observe, there is not a single trace of residue, and it blends with the alcohol like milk. It is said that refining it every day for twelve days, its fragrance can spread that far. Regarding Guggul, mix it with alcohol in a stone mortar and cold-refine it to make it tasteless, so that it can be refined like milk and turn white. Sihla water or alcohol, heat it as before and hot-refine it, or perform any kind of cold-refining until it turns white. Regarding musk, since it is harmful to the Nagas and earth deities, in order to eliminate its toxicity, add one star of red or yellow stone to every two musks, and dry-refine it thoroughly. Then sprinkle water and refine it like paint, so that it blends with the water. First, dry-refine saffron. Then sprinkle water and wet-grind it for the time it takes to brew tea. Then add good alcohol and wet-grind it again for the same amount of time as before. It is very important to filter other medicines through fine cloth and grind them finely. Grind dammar resin and benzoin to a very fine powder, and when it is suitable to mix into the incense, soak it in water, wet-grind it for a long time, and then mix it. Then dry-mix and thoroughly grind all the spices and medicines, and then wet-grind them with good alcohol so that they can absorb the taste of the alcohol. Make clean incense.

Press with wool or determine (mixing) with a mud rope. Then, for the best incense, the pine wood powder should be equal. For the medium, add bran. For the next, add chaff. Finally, add three times as much pine wood powder. For the worst, you can even add four times as much. Whichever it is, mix it evenly as before. Then, use good wine to make a paste of moderate thickness. According to the temperature, ferment it like brewing wine until the wine is not spoiled. After fermentation, pull it into a rope shape, put it on a wooden board, and dry it in the shade. Then, dye the red color with sandalwood or saffron soaked in salt water, and the yellow color with saffron or madder. Recipe ratio: 100 for borneol, 0.40 for guggul, 0.40 for saffron, 0.05 for musk, 0.25 for white sandalwood, and one each of cloves, cardamom, and nutmeg is good. Other incense recipes should also be made according to their respective classics. Regarding incense recipes, the tantras such as the Kalachakra, and the incense recipes of Nagarjuna are recorded in the Tanjur. There are also the five mixed incenses of the Kashmiri Pandit, various incense recipes for tormas, and incense offerings for each protector, etc., which are numerous. These incenses also have eight types such as burning incense and applying incense. Method of making ink: Burn the dry bark of the Thangma tree or Costus, etc., and collect the soot produced by the flame in a container with a mesh, or use the soot from butter lamps and auspicious lamps, or use the soot from the tobacco pot, or burn lime coated on dry tiles. These are the main raw materials. After the boiled glue is cooled, add it to the soot. The concentration of the glue should be such that it cannot be licked with the tongue. Then, repeatedly knead it in a leather bag. If it is too dry, moisten it with water and knead it repeatedly to reconcile it. Some people directly knead the glue in the leather bag and then add soot, etc. to color it. When kneading the ink, or even later, soaking it in the water of the betel nut will prevent it from freezing in winter; soaking it in the water of camphor, cloves, and white sandalwood will prevent it from rotting in summer; soaking it in the water of musk and orpiment will make it very smooth and will not break the ink; soaking it in the water of sugar cane and bamboo yellow will make the color shiny; soaking it in the water of lychee, madder, camphor, frankincense, sweet pine, costus, turmeric, and black galangal will make it fragrant; adding the clarified liquid of fried wheat flour water and ox bile will give it a silver sheen.
