The Sun of Clear Measurement of the Body The Sun of Clear Measurement of the Body The Sun of Clear Measurement of the Body - Thus it is titled. Namo Manjushri Kumaraya. (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Romanization, Chinese literal meaning) Homage to Manjushri, the Youth! With the two accumulations perfected, the body of wisdom, Before the net of illusion, I pay homage with reverence, To make the measurements of the deities' bodies Extremely easy to understand, I shall explain. That is, as the Kalachakra, the Vinaya Source, and the Questions of Shariputra, and other sutras, and their commentaries and treatises have well explained, regarding the measurements of the body, the Nirmanakaya and Sambhogakaya of the Supreme Buddha, the peaceful ones, are thirteen and a half fingers each, with one face as the standard, the face measurement is ten faces. Bodhisattvas, omitting half a finger, are twelve fingers, with one face as the standard, the face measurement is ten faces, which is five fingers less than the body of the Buddha. The Queen Mothers and goddesses are all nine fingers high, the Wrathful Ones are all eight fingers high, and the Young Ones are six fingers high. In general, it is taught from the framework of the five great lines, and others are to be explained as incidental. First, the face or height, dividing it into twelve fingers, is easy to explain if done in a general way. How much is the extent of the body? From the top of the crown to the heel, dividing it equally into ten parts, that great part is called face or front, middle, palm, great part, and fathom. Each great part is divided into twelve small parts, each small part is called finger or small part, tiny part. A quarter of that finger is called foot. Half of the foot is called barley, so eight barleycorns are one finger. Two barleycorns are one foot. Thus, each great part is twelve fingers, and this height of ten, the length of the body is one hundred and twenty fingers, which is Manjushri and other Bodhisattvas' body measurement. It is said that it is easy to understand if this is explained first, so for a standing statue, draw a straight central line in the middle of the body. Upward in length, the height of the crown is four fingers, then the hairline of the hair is four fingers, then the distance to the earlobe is one face measurement. If the distance from the hairline to the urna hair between the eyebrows is four fingers, then it should be known that the distance from the hairline to the top of the earlobe is included in the face measurement. Note. Then the height of the neck is four fingers, then twelve fingers is the heart. Similarly, one face measurement is the navel. Then one face measurement is the lower line of the secret place.

That is, the upper body is five face-lengths. Then, the hips are four fingers, the thighs are two face-lengths, the knees are four fingers, the shins are two face-lengths, and the soles of the feet are four fingers, totaling one hundred and twenty fingers in height. The jewel on top of the crown protuberance, which is two fingers, is not counted here. In width, from the central Brahma aperture to the tip of the armpit is one face-length, the shoulders are twenty fingers, the forearms are sixteen fingers, and the fingers are twelve fingers. Adding the left and right sides together, it is one hundred and twenty fingers, which is the water level. According to the Abhidharmasamuccaya, the hips are five fingers, the knees are three fingers, and the ankles are one finger, according to other teachings. Thus, from the top of the crown protuberance to the white hair between the eyebrows, and from the heart to the navel and the secret place, each is one face-length. The thighs are two face-lengths, the shins are two face-lengths, the hips, knees, and soles of the feet are each four fingers, totaling one face-length, and the height is a total of ten face-lengths. In width, from the Brahma aperture to the armpit is one face-length, the shoulders are one face-length and eight fingers, the forearms are one face-length and four fingers, and the fingers are one face-length. Adding the left and right sides together, the width is a total of ten face-lengths. For a seated statue, there are five face-lengths from the top of the crown protuberance to the secret place. The measurements for sitting on a lotus seat will be explained below. These can give a rough understanding of the proportions. The Buddha's body is calculated as thirteen and a half fingers for each major part, so the water level is one hundred and twenty-five fingers, which is five fingers more than the measurements given above. This requires adding half a finger to each of the ten parts of each major part. That is, add half a finger to the curls of the hair. Similarly, add half a finger each to the base of the collarbone, the heart, the navel, and the end of the secret place, for a total of five and a half fingers added to the upper body. Add one finger to the thighs, one finger to the shins, and half a finger to the soles of the feet, so five and a half fingers need to be added to the lower body, for a total of ten half-fingers, which is actually five fingers more. Similarly, in horizontal width, add half a finger from the heart to the tip of the armpit, and add one finger each to the elbow and wrist joints, or some think that half a finger is added to the wrist joint and half a finger is added to the fingers. In any case, adding the left and right sides together, the total is one hundred and twenty-five fingers, which is the water level. This method is stated in the Abridged Tantra of the Kalachakra: 'From the crown protuberance of the Lord of Conquerors to the center of the white hair between the eyebrows, including half, it becomes the finger measurement of the sun.' etc., which has been well explained. At this time, there is this doubt.
