Establishing the Three Vows as One. Establishing the Three Vows as One. a Herein lies the establishment of the Three Vows as One. Here, some say that the Three Vows are distinct. They cling solely to their own views, without grasping the essence, and utter many frivolous words, saying that it is unreasonable for you Nyingma to believe that the essence of the Three Vows transforms. If it is reasonable, then when the Pratimoksha, etc., transform into Mantra, do they transform by abandoning the lower vows, or without abandoning them? If it is the former, then it is unreasonable to hold the Vajradhara who possesses the three vows. The Vajradhara who possesses the three vows does not possess the three vows, because the Pratimoksha has already been abandoned. They say that the Pratimoksha has already been abandoned, because it is abandoned and then transforms into Mantra. If according to the second statement, the Pratimoksha does not abandon its own essence, then transformation is impossible, because the Pratimoksha vow does not transform in essence. Because it does not abandon its own essence. If it does not abandon its own essence, then it cannot transform into something else. They say this, boasting that they are very logical, and speaking with their necks raised high, and also writing it down. Here, if explained according to the level of one's own wisdom and experience, it should be like this, explained with three reasons. Firstly, establishing one's own view, refuting the opposing side of fixed notions, and ultimately unifying the views of the great chariots, these three. The first point also has reality and debate. The first point is according to the view of the omniscient Ngakgi Wangpo, father and son, the essence of the Three Vows transforms, not mixing self-nature and common nature, this is what we approve of. This is not something self-made, but comes from the Buddha's intention. In the fifth chapter of the Hundred Thousand Verses, the Tantra of Accomplishing Suchness Wisdom, it says: A type of stone, when melted, produces iron, copper, and silver. The substance of gold-transforming essence, can transform everything into gold. Similarly, with the differentiation of mind, the vows of the three lineages, when entering this great mandala, are called Vajradhara. This is what is said. The second point is refuting debate. Regarding your refutation of abandoning or not abandoning, this is like knowing the tip but not knowing the root, or knowing how to draw the bow but not knowing where to shoot. Although clever, the mind is narrow. Not being biased towards one's own view, but looking at it from a fair standpoint, it should be like this. The so-called "Three Vows" are generally

Regarding the key of not being bound by afflictions, the nature of what is to be protected is the same, because all the teachings of the Buddhas cut off the root of existence and peace, and are consistent in attaining Nirvana. Maitreya said, "It eliminates all afflictions from the three realms." And so on, and it can also be established by the logic of reality, so it must be understood that the unchanging nature, constant and eternal, does not exist. Thus, the three, Śrāvakayāna vows, Bodhisattva vows, and Mantra vows, are consistent in the key of not being controlled by afflictions, from abandoning and transforming into the path, just like not eating poison, or eating poison with a mantra, and transforming poison into medicine, these three are not harmed by poison. The latter two cases are like not eating poison personally, according to the size of the vehicle, the precepts to be protected, the nature is that the former is the basis of the latter, if the substance is not different, then what is there to abandon or not abandon? If you think that the nature has not changed, it is because the Śrāvakayāna vows are the basis of the Bodhisattva vows, and when it is held by the Bodhisattva's mind, it is called that vow. For example, when a sword is owned by a coward, a warrior, and a very brave person, it is called a coward's sword, etc. It's like the sword that used to be a coward's sword is not now, but a warrior's sword. Therefore, like a sword, if you say that the nature of the precepts has not changed, it is because the function of the sword is different and very great. Although there is greatness or not, if there is no change, it is like a poor person becoming a rich person, but at that time there is no property at all, or a person becomes a minister and king from a commoner, but does not have that function. Therefore, the discipline of taking and abandoning is the nature of the precepts, like this, the Śrāvakayāna vows are seeing that the three realms of samsara are suffering, and deciding to be liberated from it, abandoning its cause, afflictions, with this mentality, and cannot be used as the path, just like ordinary people cannot eat poison without a mantra. The Bodhisattva vows are not only for oneself to attain liberation, but also enter with the pure intention of benefiting others, and act completely under the control of benefiting others, even if it is a downfall of the Śrāvakayāna vows, there will be no fault because the intention is pure, just like a mantra that can transform poison into medicine. Mantra is, the great intention to quickly accomplish the two benefits of oneself and others
